Looking over things, there are two down ticket republicans in all that I may vote for. I don't want to get into a huge debate over it, as that time has passed.

The rest of the ticket will be pretty much straight Dem. Do most of you vote straight ticket, or do you give the pubs a shot sometimes?

5. I did, accidentally.
The judges' parties weren't listed, and I didn't do my homework. I voted for the female, only to find out she's a whackjob.

Fortunately, I early voted, and hopefully redeemed myself by mentioning the Dem Judge and handing out his fliers on my Obama canvasses.

13. I've never voted for a REpublican in my life
even one who I knew very well in a local race. Told him it wasn't anything against him, but that I could never vote for a REpublican. He got mad. I told him, "get rid of the religious whackos from your party and I'll reconsider."

That was more than twenty years ago.

16. I never vote straight ticket.
Sometimes the individual's craziness overrules the party affiliation.

That said, this year I voted for two Republicans and one Mountain Party (WV) candidate. The Republicans were both down ticket -- one a circuit judge and the other a state delegate. Voted Mountain Party for governor because Democratic incumbent Joe Manchin is a douchebag. (Manchin will win easily; that was simply a protest vote on my part.)

33. Same here
Two years ago, in the race for sheriff in my county (which is pretty solid Dem), the Dem was a hardcore AM radio wingnut, while the Republican was very apolitical, felt it had no place in the job, and ran as a Repub because they had an opening.

In 1990, in Minnesota, I vote for Paul Wellstone, a Dem, and Arne Carlson, a Repub, since I didn't like the Dem incumbent (Rudy Perpich). In another election, I vote for a college friend who was running for a local office as a Repub.

From time to time, I do cast votes for some independent and third party candidates. I honestly don't like my choices limited. I did do straight ticket today, since most of the ballot was unopposed Democrats.

After impeachment I decided I would only vote for Republicans who disavowed that bullshit.

But it's been long enough, and we had one crazy this year, so I did vote for one Republican today. And for one Green ... against Rahm Emmanuel.

Oddly the Dem is a set-up who is really a right wing Repub who is trying to unseat the repub who tends to be moderate to left.

I voted a Repub for surveyor and another for a judge position. I also voted for a Libertarian for County commissioner.

Straight party tickets hold little appeal for me, but that's probably why I'm an independent. :)

39. I will never vote Rethug again
I might not always vote for the Dem but I will never vote republican. Their party values and ideas have basically been discredited as non-functioning in the real world. There simply is no point to voting for them. I want to build a society based on ideas that might work or have proven to work, not ideas long discredited as having no value or simply not functioning. It's that simple.

46. I did. For City Council.
He ran on the Republican ticket for state rep in 2006 so I know he's a Republican. I voted against him then because he ran on an anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage platform (although he believes that being gay is not a choice.) Even so, he is a really great city councilman and those issues aren't addressed at a city level. He stands up for the residents and is more flexible in his reading of city ordinances then the other members and usually gets his way. He's also my mechanic and I've known him since he was a kid. Really nice guy, just not very worldly.

52. I think I'm going to have to back Repubs for two county offices.
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 02:19 PM by seawolf
Office 1: I don't like it, but the opposing candidate (not a Dem, she's a no-party-affiliation candidate) hasn't made so much as a single proposal for change. She's done nothing but spout a bunch of vague statements and offered nothing real. The Repub's actually made improvements while he held the office. (I know, I was surprised too.)

Office 2: For an environmental office, it's a choice between a Republican...or a slobbering Libertarian nutcase who claims global warming's a hoax. For once, the Repub's the lesser of two evils.

Straight Dem ticket for everything else, though, plus one write-in against a Repub. (Will not be backing the write-in candidate, however, since he appears to have been a puppet entered into the race at the last minute to keep Dems from voting in the Repub primary -- if there is no opposing-party or write-in candidate, then all eligible voters can vote in party primaries here. I intend to write in one of my former professors.)

55. I did. There's usually one or two sane Republicans way downballot. Years
ago, when I first started voting, there were a lot more viable (read: not batshit crazy) Republican candidates than there are these days. It'll be interesting to see how the party reshapes itself in the aftermath of the imminent collapse, but as far as I'm concerned, they don't have to rush that recovering-from-the-collapse business.
