Need quick help answering dumb Obama question on another message board...
I made the mistake of opening up the discussion of politics on a message board where we usually talk about reality tv. (Don't laugh) Any how, I moderate the board, and now have been presented with a question that I would like to respond in a way that is thoughtful rather than saying "You are a fucking idiot". Thank you SO MUCH in advance for advice.

The question:

"Can I ask what it is that everyone loves about Obama so much?" Then the next gal (idiot) comments that "it is the "pop star' effect". Something stupid like this.

My knee jerk reaction was to say they were dumb asses. I backspaced and ran over to DU to see if some one could point me toward a quick "burb" on why I love Obama! For me it's just the whole ball of wax, but I was hoping to bullet point it for these women. There are several that I believe value my opinion and if I present it well I may be able to influence their votes.

Thank you for your help. My readers can't handle much more than short bullet points. If there is a journal, website whatever that "sums it up" that would be perfect for me to cut and paste. I have been a Democrat my whole entire life, so having to "sum" up my whole ideology is just too much for me at this moment.

Thank you DU! I know I am always asking for things!!

1. Me? I'm looking forward to a president who can string a
cogent sentence together unlike the current asswipe in charge. He has also thought through the sentence prior to delivering it. How novel!

2. I like what Colin Powell said
"I come to the conclusion that because of his ability to inspire, because of the inclusive nature of his campaign, because he is reaching out all across America, because of who he is and his rhetorical abilities -- and you have to take that into account -- as well as his substance -- he has both style and substance," Powell said. "He has met the standard of being a successful president, being an exceptional president."

3. He's kept a positive game. He's said what he plans to do.
He laid it out on the table right there. Mostly semi-progressive change of pace from the idiotic Reaganomics masquerading as Capitalism crap that the Republican party has become.

Read his website. He say a bit more than "hope" you know.

4. I think it will be a welcome
change to see our president greeted in foreign countries by thousands waving American flags instead of burning them. :patriot:

7. The economic crisis of a month or so ago solidified it for me.
As if there was any doubt. LOL But seriously - he showed patience, judgment and nuanced thinking of a highly complex and serious situation. Not only that, he demonstrated LEADERSHIP by remaining calm. No rash decisions, no panic, no fear.

I was far more reassured by Obama than by McHothead or our Buffoon-in-Chief.

10. The Powell statement is GREAT. I would say also because
he has run such a positive campaign without mud slinging or using fear tactics. Even his slogan is "Yes We Can" which is about us. He has inspired people to work together.

12. Because he is so different from the bush.
Obama is intelligent where bush is ignorant. Obama is intellectually curious where bush couldn't care less.

Obama is well spoken and controlled, where bush is stumbling and reacts on gut instinct.

Obama has dark skin, where bush has white skin.

Obama sees his support coming from the majority of American citizens, where bush sees his support coming from the uber wealthy (the haves and have mores, his base).

Obama was raised in a poor household, bush had wealth and luxury all his life.

Obama is concerned about others, bush wants to use others.

15. It's a cumulative thing. These women should have been paying attention all along.
You can tell them why he is so special, but they are not going to really understand that until they see all the photos of him and his family and his supporters, or hear him speak or have a real understanding of the issues and how they compact their lives and where he stands on these issues.
I'm so tired of trying to do people's homework for them. (These women, not you). If they have not voted yet, I'd just say, "Trust me. You will find out soon enough why people like him so much." Tell them there's nothing sexier than a woman who knows her politics. Or whatever.

22. Here it is
LOL - I'm the admin of the site

Why I "Love" Obama:

1) He has run a positive campaign without mud slinging or using fear tactics.

2) He is calm, cool, steady and smart. Speaking to our best intentions in government.

3)His ability to inspire. We are in a financial mess and we as Americans need to pull our heads up and look to the future. Obama inspires.

4) His rhetorical abilities, as well as his substance -- he has both style and substance.

5) He will help us gain our respect back around the World.

6) He is a Democrat as I am

7) He is pro-choice as I am

His Healthcare plan -- this is very important to me.

9) He will cut my taxes because I make under 200,000 a year, but honestly that isn't important to me.

10) He is highly intelligent and listens. When he talks, it's not just words, he really answers the questions.
