I love the East Coast and hope to move there, but as someone who grew up in the Midwest, I always have a big soft spot for Chicago. Seriously, Chicago is a gem and most people on the East and West Coasts are totally clueless about it, imagining it as a stereotypical, boring Midwestern city only bigger.

But Chicago is awesome. And frankly, despite its history of political corruption, Illinois strikes me as a ideal place for national Democrats to base themselves. The state has pretty liberal politics, a big world-class city and many promising Democrats, yet politicians from the state don't inspire anywhere near the kind of skepticism that Coastal politicians do -- nor do coastal residents have the kind of skepticism of Illinois pols that they do for Southern pols.
