Obama gains on McCain in St. Louis County’s rerun of numbers (MO gets closer)
Missouri’s presidential results got 699 votes tighter — without those as-yet-uncounted provisional ballots — after St. Louis County completed a new final tally of its votes in Tuesday’s election...

The county is the state’s largest voting bloc, and had thousands of voting machines and optical scanners in use. After retallying all the machines, and rechecking the scanners, the county’s final results changed...

The new county results reduces McCain’s statewide edge to 5,160 votes (from the 5,859 now on state Web site.)

Elections officials all over the state are just now going through roughly 7,000 provisional ballots that are not included in the statewide tally, until it can be verified which of those ballots were cast by properly registered voters at the right polling place.

1. 3750 is the estimate of provisionals coming from STLC and STL Co.
It will close even more...

2. Please let him lose Missouri
I'm so sick of the media carrying on about how Missouri is a "bellwether state". There is no science behind that. It is just the superstition that happens when random chance produces the odd coincidence here and there. That's what randomness is, after all.

Let's lose Missouri so that next time around the will be no reason for the media to exaggerate the role that Missouri plays. That state has no magic predictive powers. It is just a bunch of people, just like any other state.

4. I'd love to win Missouri, but I'd much rather the vote tally flip in MN or AK
Wanting Obama to win Missouri at this point just feels greedy, but I don't care. The bluer the map the bigger the win and the mandate look. But I'd much rather get the Minnesota or Alaska Senate seats than have Obama carry another state that he doesn't need.

5. Unfortunately, not enough provisional ballots for Obama to pull it out. Many will be thrown out.

6. Yep, unless a few more counties rerun their numbers.
