Obama's New Hampshire primary concession speech ... video
Edited on Sat Nov-15-08 10:02 PM by Alhena
I have to admit I was about ready to give up on American politics on this night. To look back on this video now is very sweet- it shows that Obama is at his best when things look bleak.

And oh yeah, you may have seen this music video made out of the speech:

1. I was depressed but found myself smiling and feeling much better at some point during that speech.
After that speech, money started pouring into his campaign. I know I gave that night.

That is my favorite speech of his. The wonderful way he relays US history is awesome and inspirational. The "false hope" argument had really irritated the hell out of me. I loved his response.

I always notice the young man standing behind him looking so sad.

It is easier to enjoy things now that we know the happy ending.

2. The Bradley effect looked very real on that night ...
he lost a primary that polls showed him leading by 10. I sat down to watch a victory and was stunned by the defeat. I try to be optimistic, but I thought on that night that America would never elect a black man president. It makes it that much sweeter to look back on that night now.

5. That Was a False Meme
About the same % of people who said in the polls they'd vote for Obama, did.

The polls didn't account for undecided. Of the 15% average undecideds, 2/3 broke for Clinton. It was that simple. Were they racists? Maybe. For the most part, no one who said they were voting for Obama lied.

6. Actually, he received just as much percentage as the polls predicted
Hillary's vote went up, drastically. Obama's did not go down.

I did not know about that connection....as I tuned in later in the game....

4. I still thought we were in good shape; I was just worried about him
He looked a little deflated, got off to a bit of a slow start then he picked up, and then he closed with the, "Yes we can" riff and the whole room seemed to lift off. Afterward, the talking heads were all saying how much better his speech was than the victor's. It felt like the campaign was right back where it needed to be mentally and emotionally.
