The sight of Hillary meeting America's enemies without preconditions, as directed by President Obama, will be satisfying but not "naive".

6. I sincerely hope not
Her votes and her rhetoric would be serious liabilities when it comes to attempting to repair this country's reputation with the rest of the planet.

We need a Secretary of State who was not part of the PNAC war agenda in any capacity. We also need an experienced diplomat & negotiator to rebuild our standing in the world. Bill Richardson meets both criteria very well. Hillary does not.

40. I was commenting on the Blog-O-Sphere
Here in this little corner of it, the usual suspects are foaming at the mouth about Clinton's people trying to force Obama's hand. I don't know how much of it is secondhand from the cable shows, I don't watch that shit either.

It's a load of crap. Obama's people could nip this whole drama in the bud if they wanted to. So far, the only thing I've seen them call bullshit on is that Politico article about how they're supposed to be all exasperated at Clinton.

Whatever. They'll probably go with Richardson.

74. That is a great way to describe it!
I am so excited for the new Obama administration and am apparently one of the only people who think he is doing a GREAT job selecting cabinet positions. Especially selecting Hillary for SOS. I love Hillary. I voted for her in the primaries but then GLADLY switched to Obama when he won the nod because I also knew he was an excellent candidate. Now I'll be able to watch as Obama saves America on the domestic front and watch as Hillary and Obama save America on the foreign front. The only thing I wish he would have done that he didn't (and I understand 100% why he couldn't do this) was to appoint John Edwards as AG. I really hope that Edwards can make a political comeback somehow.

Tom as Sec. of HHS is also a great idea. Heck he wrote a book on the issue. Besides, I'm sure Obama will let Hillary give some advice into health care. Not to mention the work that will go on in the Senate for Health Care at Obama's urging. I even understand why Obama is considering allowing Robert Gates to stay on as Secretary of Defense.

I finally feel like realistic adults are in charge of the white house and are making ADULT decisions rather than choices based off of petty grudges and favors.

Besides, we KNOW the likes of Kerry and Richardson will have a lot to do with this administration... even if I love Kerry and don't like Richardson.

This is going to be a great four years. And Hillary is going to knock the socks off of those foreign ministers. If anyone can keep going and never give up it is that girl! :-D

24. I can't either.
The day she gives up her Senate seat, she loses all her independence.

She becomes Obama's subordinate.

She loses her ability to publicly affect policy.

She loses her ability to publicly criticize Obama.

She loses her campaign machine, and the ability to campaign.

She loses the ability to advance personal issues (flag burning, video games, etc.)

I'm surprised she agreed to step down from her Senate seat.

in other words - she was never officially offered it, either because of Bill's shenanagans or because she is not a team player or she is simply not qualified because of her personality.
