1. She sounds smart, competent, moral and has good ideas with a passion to get things done
...which means she's overqualified for the positions relative to MOST of the people who are in the senate now.

2. The only thing she isn't experienced in is wheeling and dealing her principles away.

10. She was a wonderful hit with me and
that's mainly why I want her for my Senator for however long. That and her resume has dedication and class written all over it.

Her endorsement in the NYT said a lot about why she wants to enter public service at this time in her life, imo.

<snips>

"Sometimes it takes a while to recognize that someone has a special ability to get us to believe in ourselves, to tie that belief to our highest ideals and imagine that together we can do great things. In those rare moments, when such a person comes along, we need to put aside our plans and reach for what we know is possible.

We have that kind of opportunity with Senator Obama. It isn’t that the other candidates are not experienced or knowledgeable. But this year, that may not be enough. We need a change in the leadership of this country — just as we did in 1960.

Most of us would prefer to base our voting decision on policy differences. However, the candidates’ goals are similar. They have all laid out detailed plans on everything from strengthening our middle class to investing in early childhood education. So qualities of leadership, character and judgment play a larger role than usual."

14. Big whoop. acouple of Speeches! Caroline has worked the field? Gone door knocking?
Edited on Tue Dec-16-08 01:24 PM by saracat
Put together a plan? Reseached constituencies? Studied their issues? "That" is campaigning, and something she has NOT done.

17. Obama had actually run in a several elections. No one had ever questioned that he had
"political " experience. They questioned whether he had sufficient experience to "govern" or be president. That is an entirely different matter. Caroline hasn't even run for school board and they want to "appoint" her US Senator? She doesn't even have the experience that "political wives" who have succeeded deceased husbands get on the campaign trail. Many of those women were integral to their spoused campaigns.

I think it is outrageous that Caroline starts at the top of the political ladder just be being the daughter of JFK. She has not paid any political dues whatsoever. Many of her cousins chose to go into public service. She did not. She is accomplished in other ways. But this would amount to a "legacy appointment" and doers not seem right.

If they must have a Kennedy, and I do NOT see why they should, there are many more deserving Kennedy kids who have done more than give a few speeches and pick up the phone and ask for the job.

20. "A couple of speeches" sounds very familiar to me.
And she's done plenty in public view and in public service. To say she lacks the experience of a political wife is insulting both to her and to political wives.

21. What nonsense. Has she put in the grueling 18 hour days on the political trail?
Edited on Tue Dec-16-08 03:07 PM by saracat
Has she given up any part of her private life for a higher calling? And her being "attacked" comes with the territoty. What Senator isn't? or is she exempt from that too? She has merely waited until the kids have been grown and thinks this would be interesting.

She has done some philanthropic work and is a well educated socialite. There are many such in NY whose name isn't Kennedy and they aren't asking to be Senator. Why hasn't she run for office before? Why didn't she even run for school board? She was not interested in politics and repeatedly said so. Now she wants to start with a top position and leapfrog others who have earned their stripes. And there are better qualified Kennedy's as well.

5. I know - why would she want to blow all that in the senate?
She's certainl qualified.

That she isn't is tripe. The senate is full of legacy folks.

18. Then why didn't she before? She has always stated she did not
want to be involved. She did philanthropic efforts instead. What if any of us are "inspired to serve"? Do we get an equal shot at the job? What about all the other qualified congress critter and other political folks from NY who have dedicated their lives to service? What are they ? Chopped lover because Caroline suddenly wants the job?

Caroline gets to jump over all the more qualified applicants because she is a Kennedy? And over all her more qualified cousins who have dedicated their lives to service?

8. Thank you for posting this.
I am REALLY getting sick of those who are trying to tear Caroline down.
She is every bit as qualified as Hillary was when she moved to NY to set up shop. At least Caroline can claim residency in the state for years(she was even born in NYC), and an active involvement in issues of NY--such as NY Public Education. Caroline will be a better Senator than many of the Democrats and ALL the Republicans that are in the Senate now.

For those who say,"but where does she stand on the issues?" GIVE ME A BREAK. She spelled some of that out quite clearly, and eloquently, in the above Daily Show clip of 2006, just for example.

For the other argument that she must "run" for the seat----that is not an option right now, or she would do it, and she would WIN. She WILL run when it it time. She campaigned all over the country for Obama.

Caroline has a record of accomplishments of her own, as an attorney, editor and writer , a co-founder of the Profiles in Courage awards, a director of the Commission on Presidential Debates and NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, President of the Kennedy Library Foundation, director of strategic partnerships for NYC Public schools and fundraiser of millions for that cause, to name a few--- she has just not run for prior office.

I kind of like the fact she HASN'T been a pol up until now. She is like a breath of fresh air. Of course, I do not live in NY; however,if the polls are to be believed---she is favored by a majority of those that DO live there.

9. You're welcome!
I hope those who are against her simply because her name is Kennedy will listen to where she stands so they can judge her on her views.
