Obama bashers get your free licks in now
I love all the choices Obama has made so far and I'll defend him on any issue apart from this Warren invocation. I'm sure there are more inclusive pastors he could have invited and still sent a message that he is open to listening to the views of evangelicals. I really cannot defend having Warren speak. So the Obama bashers can have a free reign on this one.

21. Oh, there are bashers.
There are plenty of supporters and non-supporters who have every right to criticize Obama. He deserves criticism for this.

There are also some people who will never believe that any Democratic President could ever be a real liberal and they eagerly search for anything to justify their cynicism. In some cases it's the same people who said Obama was a corporate sell out even before he announced his campaign. They will always focus on the negative and overlook the positive no matter what he does.

Rather than advocating family owned, sustainable organic farming, and biofuel options that make fucking sense.

28. Where do you have evidence of that?
I thought LaHood was pretty good on transportation issues...he usually voted for Amtrak funding...where do you get that he does not believe in funding mass transit? I'm not denying it, just hadn't heard that.

30. Oh, but cabinet picks are irrelevant
Who presidents pick to be secretaries of executive departments have absolutely nothing to do with how those departments will be overseen under their administrations!!!!1!! And Obama's not even president yet!! Nothing he does before the second before he is sworn is as president means anything and thus should not be criticized!!!!1!!

:sarcasm: (sadly, it is necessary to include this...)

8. fuck up? yes... monumental? please....

This is a TRIVIAL fuck up.

Yes. trivial.

If he would've named someone like Warren to a cabinet position, THAT would be a monumental fuck up.

Hyberbole doesn't help the cause.

31. Warren's action wrt prop8 WERE monumental... Obama's action of having him speak is TRIVIAL

Obama's "fuckup" did not take your right to marriage away.

You're equating Warren's views on gay marriage to Obama..... that's silly.

9. You are happy about Vilsack?
The USDA needed as much of an overhaul as anything. Instead we got Vilsack. Why do you believe that Vilsack will modernize our agriculture, food, and farming policy? I don't see it.

11. Not an Obama basher, but he is wrong on Warren.
I've been an avid Obama supporter since 2004 (although I supported Clinton up until Iowa). I have never said anything meant to be negative about Obama. But his decision to elevate and legitimize this man of intolerance during this occasion in front of an audience of billions does not make me happy.

I have to confessed that I'm surprised by his insensitivity in light of Warren's endorsement of Prop 8. Especially while the pain from its passage is still so raw. Obama is smarter than this. What is he thinking?

12. Like I said, its indefensible
I hope all of us who disagree write about this at change.gov, and let him and his admin know we disagree with this. But lets remember Warren will not be his spiritual advisor and will not be setting any policy. he is just a nut bag giving a prayer.

Edited on Wed Dec-17-08 05:31 PM by ieoeja
While I still believe he will be the best advocate for Gay *legal* rights to sit in the White House in the past century, I just as strongly feel that he is completely tone-deaf when it comes to the *non-legal* issues of inclusion.

17. Obama bashers? Where?
:D I just see many people here who are opposed to having this hateful Warren asshole "pray" at the inauguration....

Where is the "bashing"? Is it considered "bashing" now if you don't agree with something Obama does?

That is just-fucked-up, don't you agree?

19. I don't have to be an Obama basher to disagree with some of his choices.
I support Barack Obama. I can't think of anyone who is as well suited to leading the nation in this particular time as he is.

However, I realize he is not a god, he is not perfect. In fact, one of the things that I do admire about him is that he wouldn't have much time or use for someone who sat around telling him how perfect he is.

He's made some bad choices. This one is especially bad. This one stinks to high skies. I don't have much use for religion in any event, but I recognize there are religious figures he could have invited to participate who would be less divisive.

Obama has a gay problem. I don't know if it's because of his religion, his upbringing, or what, but he has it. He needs to do a better job of recognizing that fact and taking deliberate care not to allow his problem to send a message to millions of Americans that they or someone they care about has no place at the American table.

On some level, Rick Warren has enough self awareness to know what a shithead he is. If he was really convinced his homophobia was so freaking righteous, he wouldn't try so hard to hide it.

On this issue they will get no resistance from me. Warren is a terrible choice.

Nothing to do with the primaries.

27. I don't understand the idea of licks and bashers and whatnot.
I like him. I think he's brilliant. I think he's going to do a great job as president. But I won't agree with him on every single thing and this Warren thing is the first decision he's made that truly has me scratching my head and pissed off.

I'll live. It's just bad.
