1. 100% true, and 100% the reason having him perform an invocation is a horrible idea...

9. Here's more info, from DUer stillcool47:
Please, please, please...

have your voice be heard by the members of the Joint Congressional Inauguration Committee, and on the Obama Community Website.

http://inaugural.senate.gov/cmte /

http://change.gov/newsroom/entry/building_the_community...

I'm writing in response to Rick Warren participating in the inauguration. I hope that President-elect Obama is aware of how many people are deeply offended by the choice of this man. Surely there is another religious leader that is more tolerant of all Americans. I understand the need for inclusiveness, but this man actively campaigns to exclude, and deny rights to the American people. You deny the rights of one, and you deny the rights of all.

16. This is what I wrote, on the contact page of the website...
"I beg you to reconsider having Rick Warren participate in your Inauguration. The man was an outspoken supporter of Proposition 8 in California and is strongly anti-choice as well. A lot of people supported you, both gay and straight, and we are deeply offended by this man. Thank you for your time, I hope you come to the right decision."

I was much more civil than I feel right now.

35. Two political decisions. Equal and opposite.
Both make perfect sense to me. He distanced himself from Wright to win the primaries. He's ALLOWING Warren to do the invocation to demonstrate bipartisanship.

He's a politician. This is how it works.

This did it. My head finally 'sploded all over the place. If ever there was a huge 'FUCK YOU ASSHOLES!!!' to all the gays, the pro-choice, the atheists, the people who busted their butts and gave their hard-earned money for Obama during his campaign, well, this would be it. I guess I caved today. I've been defending Obama and have been very pleased with what I thought were his 'pragmatic' choices so far, but I cannot stomach that Warren piece of shit or his ignoramus supporters getting front and center stage at Obama's inauguration. They did SHIT for Obama, and Warren even less. Now I remember why Obama was close to my last choice. I'm so fucking devastated. As a person who lived through hell (with many of my fellow DUer's) because of spiritual rapists, this is something I just can't stomach right now.

In any case, why must Obama choose an Evangelical minister?

although I don't think Obama's an evangelical (one who actively spreads the Word of God), I think he respects those who do, on principle. So, while Obama didn't need to pick/accept THAT evangelical minister, I think he would have been comfortable with one in general.

26. Either O or Warren have to go....
If this is the leadership O is going to give us please give me GWB. At least I know who the enemy is. This is awful. This must be stopped and O made to realize that his base is not conservative black churches who in their own right think it is perfectly acceptable to disparage poor, pregnant and otherwise challenged individuals. Further Warren hates hates and women. This must be stopped. Else I will walk away and realize that O is nothing more than W in darker clothing.

30. No "Fake Cowboys"
My point is that I see no difference between O and GWB if this is his choice for a spiritual leader. Warren has a history of hatred toward women, gays, etc. If that is the case then I prefer GWB who at least arguably represented his bigoted views openly. O talked about inclusion, acceptance and equality. His choice of Warren means that was just political talk and that he means "business as usual". Warren is not a spiritual leader. He is a cult opportunist who makes millions off of people for writing books that tell people how to think. How disgusting. We need to educate people to think for themselves for a change without the influence of politicians (obviously O is one of them) and Warren (a spiritual opportunist).

If Warren stands I will join the opposition to this presidency as it should be challenged.

Cult opportunist? I don't even know how to respond to that and won't waste my time. As for inclusion, that's what he's trying to do even if we don't like it.
