Does that make me a homophobe? Because Ive been called that a couple times today. I think Warren is a scumbag and wish somebody else was chosen (how bout nobody at all?). But, i cant get worked up over this because he isnt going to be in the cabinet. He hasnt been chosen to be on some OUtreach committee. He's just been asked to say some stupid prayer.

1. Unfortunately, though, what it does is give legitimacy to Warren, and he deserves NONE
People - and remember, most Americans are really, really fucking dumb - people will look and go "Oh, Warren! He was at the President's inauguration, so he must be right!"

That's the problem with it. Yeah, on one hand, let whoever do the prayer.

But on the other hand, this is a MAJOR BIG TOTAL FUCKING HUGE step into the public life of this country for Warren, and THAT is fucking dangerous.

And I am not going to flame you. It's just that many of us were raised in very oppressive, religious households and as a result, we find the pick of an evangelical bigot very offensive. Believe me, I wish I could be like you, but I can't. This is truly offensive to some of us. Others here will not understand why, and I respect that. Fuck. I envy it.

6. Maybe, like me, you are suffering from Outrage Fatigue
because I'm disappointed but having a hard time getting outraged about Rick Warren. Bad move on the Pres-elect's part, for sure. If Obama didn't realize before he'd piss a lot of people off with this choice, I'm sure he's just wishing the whole damned inauguration was over and done with so he can move on. He can't go back on it now ('no drama'). BTW, I am still outraged by the passage of Prop 8 and still have the 'No on 8' sticker on my car. Straight but not narrow. Rick Warren is a clown and a blight on what should have been a perfect day. I will take a potty break when he takes the mike.

The KKK itself is just a bunch of bigots spouting off. It's when individuals put those thoughts into action, that people get lynched.

My KKK comparison was perfectly appropriate.

60. Prejudice is a thought/belief but bigotry is action.
I believe you used prejudice in your original post but am unsure.

The person who believes that same-sex marriage is wrong due to religious beliefs is prejudice, the person that takes some actions against people that are gay because of their prejudices are bigots. Those voting against proposition 8 are prejudice for sure and might be bigots, but those you physically take action (from name calling to killing) against gay persons are definitely bigots. Terrorism comes in when the violent action is taken against a group. Let us use the terms correctly so as not to belittle some and over rate others. Not every prejudice person is a bigot and not every bigot is a terrorist.

The problem with this board is that it doesn't choose it's battles to fight. Fight the battles that we HAVE to win, and let the other shit go. But no ...this place fights every fucking battle, and when the horses have fallen, they beat them into the ground.

Sure Rick Warren in a vile piece of garbage, he will come and go ...but what will remain is the fact that Obama held to his word and is President to all the people, even the haters, what will remain is the thought that he did reach out to these people, regardless of their hate for gays, and probably Obama himself.

I am letting this one go, Warren isn't worth it and he will be gone soon. But ...If Obama starts to adopt his views and policy then I believe it is a battle that needs to be fought.

Rick Warren's a douche, and I'm disappointed that he was chosen to provide the invocation at Obama's inauguration (personally, I think he should have picked Rev. Wright just so we could get entertainment from Freeper heads exploiding...)

That said, Obama didn't pick Warren to be in his cabinet. He was picked (probably not by Obama himself, but the Congressional committee responsible for putting the inauguration together, though Obama could demand they pick someone else) to speak some words and wave a dead chicken at a ceremony.
