An experiment for DU'ers. Take a piece of paper and draw
Edited on Wed Dec-17-08 11:19 PM by mmonk
a straight line across the middle. On one end write: the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, The Geneva Convention, the Declaration of Human Rights, war as a last resort. On the other end write: a war started through deception, spying on citizens without a warrant, torture of prisoners without due process or application of the Geneva Convention, suspension of due process of law, suppression of free speech, elected officials above the law. In the middle or center, make a mark and give it a name.

The name I gave the mark is "STILL WRONG".

Several over the years, actually.

6. I gave it "Lesser Evil."
Which is, of course, STILL WRONG.

I love your thread.

9. I think the majority of DU'ers can agree about "right/wrong"...
but we will forever squabble over the details of correcting said wrongs. What were you hoping your experiment to show?

14. In terms of these issues, it isn't about left or right but right and wrong.
Edited on Thu Dec-18-08 03:40 PM by mmonk
In that case, there is no moderate, center, or middle. The polical speakers and politicians that call citizens against these positions as the "left" or "base" or as not concerned with the things that "matter" to the American people or any other dismissive terms are speaking political speak and do not serve us. Thus, it is best not to keep electing politicians that play that game or ignore our pleas IMO.

15. Exactly right. In political continuum with illegal at one end and legal on the other.
Edited on Thu Dec-18-08 03:43 PM by lumberjack_jeff
Every point in between is some form of illegal.

Fuck centrism.
