Ann Curry: With Warren Invocation, Obama Reaching Across The Aisle
Ann Curry discussing her Special report with Rick Warren, said on MSNBC with Contessa: "The Liberals are furious but Obama is standing up to them while Warren is being embraced by the Conservatives for his anti-gay stance and this is impressing the Conservatives that Obama is reaching across the aisle to unite the country even if he makes the liberals furious" Moreover she said: "Warren has written books that have made millions of dollars and he has donated more than 90% of the profits to help those who are in need"

not happy with Warren either, they say that he "sold himself to Obama"

11. Oh, give it a rest, please.
Pushing you aside? Because he dares to include a very socially conservative minister in his inauguration program? For 2 minutes?

If you want to get angry, there are far more serious things to think about. The economy, anyone? Iraq? The deaths of hundreds of thousands?

Give me a break.

"Good morning.

This is Ann with the news.

"Good morning.

57. I can explain
First, he left out a word. This group will represent the interests of 'the' gays.

And it's not an offensive stereotype that we love marching in big campy parades - not at all. I just hope "our" float is a big Broadway-ish production with lights and dancing men and all - I find that a huge comfort when my rights are allowed to be voted away.

We're very child-like, you know, and easily assuaged by disco balls and guys in g-strings and "It's Raining Men" etc.

I'll bet our float is co-hosted by a local gay bar and Grey Goose Vodka. I hope I catch some mardi gras beads when they pass by as a memento of my representation at the parade...

a float, a band and some show tunes.

Somewhere out in a sea of marching drones, while fat f*ck fundy is bloviating on the podium reaching out across the aisle and giving nothing, nothing at all, in return.

on a number of accounts - the same old/same old selections for the cabinet, the war/Gitmo timetables and a bunch of other crap that seems so counter to the Hope and Change we voted for.

But if you think I'm somehow not entitled to be pissed off about his selection of Warren, then piss off - you don't get to decide what I'm angry about.

For that, I'm truly sorry. For the rest, I stand by it.

I'm just taken aback by all the hostility toward Obama for what he did, and by all the flaming cursing toward me and any one else who disagrees.

This thread sounds like the crazies on Free Republic. Certainly not about the issue, just about anyone who disagrees with the posters on this and other threads about what Obama did.

Dare to disagree and you'll called every name in the book. And no one is belittling gay rights.

We in the GLBT community have seen this happen for (basically) ever.

So when he said he was about change, either he didn't mean it, or he didn't mean for GLBT people. For that, we deserve to express our anger at his poor judgment. IMO.

Obama is obviously trying to isolate the wingnuttiest of the Republican Right. I can't believe you'd refer to Obama as "his ignorant fucking ass."

PS, I hope the mods don't censor your comments because they're too harshly worded. I don't like your opinion, but it should be okay to criticize the president in this forum.

If the mods go overboard and censor you for saying (in entirety)...

why is it so imperative that he stand up to liberals?

28. No, she's full of it. She's trying to dress up a political decision

in ethical clothes. Sucking up to right winger hatemongers is not change. Taking their money and calling it uniting the country is about as cynical as you can get.

60. Yes, she's fighting for the other side and calling it marcaroni.
That's exactly what it is.

Obama is good at appropriating other people's frames and turning them to his advantage. He does that better than 99 of 100 Democrats. But he hasn't really appropriated this frame for his own (liberal) purposes, has he? He's just joined the right wing.

63. He really has joined the right wing and getting nothing in return
maybe if fat f*ck fundy earned his way to the podium by recanting his homophobic statements, maybe.

But as it is, he is giving a top honor, status, publicity and recognition and wait...acceptance to this douche
who has done nothing to earn it.

66. I was thinking last night that if I had rewarded my teenagers for horrible behavior
our family therapist would have been on me in a heartbeat and he would have lectured me about what a good parent really is. And he would have been right. You don't reward anti social behavior unless you want more of it. It's that simple.

69. This gives cover to people who are bigoted on the left AND right
under the guise of "reaching out across the issues that divide us."

The snag is, the problem that divides us is going to be right up there on the podium with the hoped for solution. I think your family therapist might say that the message is "conflicted?"

80. Odd, when gays and allies say who is part of the problem
the victimizers are automactically elevated to "victim" status.

Accountability is healthy. ;-)

26. They could have simply embraced the: gays, guns and God message
from the get go--and gotten even more votes. :grr:

Ann (the genius) seems to get it: reach across the aisle and send the message: we stand with you against gays.

48. It's always good to be seen "standing up to liberals." Sadly
that's a plan with our party.

Warren is a bigot who has used wedge issues to become a political religious pundit.

He should not be giving that invocation.

yes, the same guy that condemned the shoe-thrower, saying that the Iraqi people should be grateful to GWB for liberating them! :puke:

55. Geez, now we have to be concerned about the conservatives' opinion?
He just won the election, he's not running for reelection until 2012. How about pleasing his base for a real "change"?

I'm glad the right-wingers are glad. They'll be smiling when they still vote for the GOP in 2012.

He could have chosen a preacher from one of the mainline denominations to give the invocation and there would have been no problem.
