In case anyone is interested in anything besides Rick Warren.

I just asked someone in my department (I work for a labor organization) and she said that Solis is a very solid labor person, so I guess this is good news.

3. A really good liberal who beat a conservative democrat for her seat

Progressive Democrats of America like her.

5. This snip from her Wikipedia page indicates to me she's seems progressive:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilda_Solis

Solis was able to obtain the support of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, Emily's List, Handgun Congrols, and the Sierra Club and the California League of Conservation voters, all of whom motivated a significant amount of volunteers and donors to help Solis win. Without a Republican in the race, Solis beat challengers from the Libertarian, Green, and Peace and Freedom parties to win with 79% of the popular vote in the general election. Solis was not without her own controversy, though, as her plan to lower the carpool restrictions on the El Monte Busway resulted in an uproar from bus riders and carpoolers that used the busway. The changes, which were implemented in January 2000, had not manifested themselves completely by the March 2000 election. Solis later voted in July to repeal portions of her own bill, effectively declaring it a failure.

6. I'm not seeing much of a labor background there.
This, however, is very encouraging. In fact, that is downright exciting!
