Poll question: If Warren stands, how do you propose folks protest (or not) during an otherwise amazing day?
Edited on Thu Dec-18-08 02:12 PM by RiverStone
It's really, really unfortunate this question needs to be considered at all, but I understand the reason we ask it. Not only is Barack Obama's inauguration historic, but it represents the end of the most criminal regime in US history.

I fear that the corporate media will give an inordinate amount of coverage to the protests (in what ever form they occur), which will detract from one of the most celebratory moments in a generation or several generations.

In no way am I recommending that people refrain from expressing their anger or dismay over Rick Warren's presence, I'm simply getting a read from DUers on how you think things should go.

Regardless, I hope this messes very little with one heck of a glorious celebration as we welcome President Elect Obama to his new house on Pennsylvania Ave!

:kick: :applause: :kick:

When Rick Warren begins his invocation, what do you think should happen?

2. If there, turn your back. You won't be allowed to have signs and banners.
Same as with a rally... they don't allow much in. I'd just turn my back in protest.

4. I'm not sure I will bother to watch the inauguration, to be honest
To me it is no different then having David Duke giving the speech before Obama's own parents could legally marry and have him.

But it's not a racial bigot, so that's okay somehow.......

Am I still hopeful about his presidency ? Yes

Have I lost some respect for him? Absolutely.

It is shameful and wrong.

9. Since civil protest is an important part of this nation's history....
..... I'm all for signs and banners from the viewing area and parade route.

Any kind of physical demonstration would just be looked upon with scorn and the message would get lost in the delivery.

And, most importantly, be kind to those on the right who are holding up signs in protest of the GLBT Marching Band and their leader, "Hussein Osama the Muslin." We all gotta share the street, ya know?

I told my boss today I didn't need the day off after all.

for those of you worried that any protest might detract from the one's day, I say a hearty "fuck you"

17. Turning a back in protest to Warren en-masse may actually be the best way to send a message
on a National level. The event will be televised, and throngs of people turning their backs on the "Reverend" while he speaks will definitely send a clear message, one that will be talked about in the media for days.
