Selecting Warren allowed Obama to avoid having to select among all the black preachers calling him

on his blackberry to ask him to select one of them for the invocation. A friend of Obama's (I think he is a pastor, but not sure) said that to Norah O'Donnell on MSNBC a few minutes ago.

13. I think that the OP was just reporting something said on TV, not endorsing it.

11. There is a rational explanation
It was a bad judgement call he now feels forced to defend, because he doesn't want to appear weak and back down in the face of pressure from his "liberal base".

Due to the unfortunate double standard in our media, where the liberal base is "extreme", while the conservative base is "mainstream" the moment this because a large controversy with us, the outcome was a forgone conclusion. He would not, and could not back down.

It was dumb. It was a dumb choice, and it is a dumb catch-22 for liberals, but there it is.

6. Tam'ron keeps reporting on supposed outrage in the black community
about Obama not having a black pastor do the invocation (as has been done in the past), but I can't find ANY stories whatsoever about it on the web. Sounds like they're making stuff up...but we'll see.

15. How was Obama able to choose Lowery without offending all the other black pastors?

9. That's got to be a joke. It has to be.
No one in the campaign could possibly be stupid enough to offer that as a serious justification for bringing Warren to the festivities.

What could Obama do?
