The "I won" comment came after Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., said Republicans believed cutting income taxed would do more to stimulate economic growth than providing a $500 per person payroll tax refund for individuals earning less than $200,000. The president said, according to those present, that this was an important philosophical divide between Republican and Democrats and that it had already been settled -- and would remain settled -- because he won the election.

Rep. Eric I. Cantor of Virginia signed a letter with other House leaders in 2003 that was favorable to an Indian tribe in Louisiana represented by Jack Abramoff, a lobbyist now under criminal and congressional investigation.

Cantor, R-7th, is chief deputy majority whip and an ally of House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. Cantor received $12,000 in campaign contributions from Abramoff, his wife and associates in 2003-2004, according to records from online campaign-finance tracking services.

The Richmond-area Republican raised campaign money at a January 2003 event held by Abramoff at a deli the lobbyist partly owned, according to a published account at the time, and a sandwich there was named for Cantor.

12. Yeah, it was a pretty good jolt and it rocked for a bit,

even up here in Anchorage which is about 150 miles from the epicenter. Earthquakes are pretty common here...I don't even feel a lot of them.

As you can see from this link http://www.aeic.alaska.edu/recent/sub/index.html Alaska has had 17 earthquakes since midnight last night, four of them here in the Cook Inlet region and another one on the Kenai Peninsula which is just south of here. Of course, those little ones aren't perceptible by anyone except the seismographs.

At the meeting, Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia, the No. 2 House Republican, passed out copies of the Republicans’ five-point stimulus plan. At first blush, Obama said, “Nothing on here looks outlandish or crazy to me,” Obama said, according to a source familiar with the conversation. He seemed particularly receptive to some Republican ideas about increasing benefits to small businesses.

But when the conversation got down to other specifics, it was clear that some of the Republican ideas were clearly non-starters with the new president – including calls to put off tax hikes during the recession. “He rejected that out of hand and said we couldn’t have any hard and fast rules like that,” Cantor said.
