Does anyone know if President Obama and First Lady
Michele did the whole re-decorate the White House B.S. as every other Preznit has done?

I haven't heard anything about that. But, I do remember all the media agaga over the choice of the cream colored oval rug with (stolen) Presidential Seal for the Oval Office and about drapes, etc. And the sniping about power washing the oval office for --- you all know why

Wonder if President Obama gives a rats ass about rugs and drapes when the country is falling in pieces around it's citizens.

Anyone? Anyone?

1. I suspect he doesn't care. Anyone who only owned one pair
of shoes probably doesn't care how the office is decorated as long as it is functional.

2. I'm sure they are doing up the family quarters
to suit themselves, just like anytime you move into a new house. You want to make it comfortable for yourself.

12. They are: $100,000 budget by a designer whose name I can't remember
and she's using Crate Barrel kids to do the kids' rooms, per Entertainment Tonight.

(I know, lame source, but I like my trash TV just as much as my C-Span and PBS!)

3. She's going to make it more 'homey' on a budget.
So yes, she is going to redecorate. And according to President Obama, he's not into plates (there are plates in the Oval Office that he wants to get rid of).

4. Obama is not redecorating the Oval office as far as I know. I believe
Edited on Thu Jan-29-09 07:13 PM by Kdillard
he and Michelle will just decorate their private space like their bedroom and living room.

5. They're spending $100,000.00 on a designer to re-do the white house
When Bush first got there, the country was ok.. fluff was ok to go on and on about then.

6. I know they kept the oval office in the same stuff Bush had. I think they
did do the girls room and perhaps their bedrooms but my wife doesn't think they did the whole White House.

10. they can't do the whole White House.
Most of it is not "doable" by anyone except the professionals and experts that supervise the place, and it's quite a lengthy procedure. They can do the private quarters, usually getting donations to fund that kind of work.

7. Oh hell, I'm all for them doing the private quarters for the
comfort of their family. That's what we nester's are all about. Bravo to them. What I find so fascinating and genuinely refreshing is that they realize what is really important to the average Joe in the U.S. Not how nice the White House is decorated but, how John Q, Citizen is making ends meet and meeting the basic necessities of their family needs, like food, utilities, a job and a roof over their heads. I love this man and his family.

8. Most changes to the Oval Office decor come later ...
Edited on Thu Jan-29-09 07:29 PM by Clio the Leo
.... in the term. The most famous example being the new rug ordered for JFK's office ..... blood red ..... that was installed WHILE he was gone to Dallas. (LBJ continued to use it because he was just ballsy like that lol.)

This page shows how the Oval Office has changed over the years.....

http://1observatorycircle.com/west-wing/oval-office-history.htm

Like the Big Dawg, I TOO like Bush's rug and I can apprecaite the practical sense of keeping it in today's economy .... but there's something to say for symbolism.

The rug has simply GOT to go.

9. .... and lemme add....
.... since it's not unusual for President's to use previously used rugs, I think Ford's rug is supercute .... however "supercute" is prob. not a theme that the Leader of the Free World should be shooting for.

13. They are redoing the private quarters
The interior designer the Obamas hired is a guy named Michael Smith. Apparently, he has worked for Cindy Crawford and Steven Spielberg. They are making it more family friendly. They plan on using affordable furnishings from regular chain stores.

15. Yes, I remember that now that you mentioned it.
Just seems to me that the re-dec or what I remember of it wasn't about a new administration. Seems to me it took on a nastiness that somehow the White House had be so defiled that it needed more than just new fabric.

All things considered it's really just b.s. I'm really impressed with what Obama is doing in his first 100 days. This man had a plan all along and an excellent one. Equal pay for women. Damn, it's about time!!!

I love his overall persona - the man personifies COOL.
