HuffingtonPost: Judd Gregg, Commerce Secretary?
There is a strong possibility that Barack Obama will ask Republican Sen. Judd Gregg to serve as his Secretary of Commerce, Democratic Senate aides tell the Huffington Post.

The move would fill a vacancy that has lingered since Gov. Bill Richardson withdrew his nomination, and could give Democrats in the Senate a 60th caucusing member, as the state's Democratic governor, John Lynch, would be appointing Gregg's replacement.

Asked for a response, White House spokesman, Bill Burton, in an email to the Huffington Post, said the "president hasn't made a pick yet."

15. The only problem is that Judd "The Dudd" Gregg will be ineffective in his job...

...*AND* will do everything in his power to ensure that Obama
is a complete and utter failure. Gregg is partisan to the core.

This is like inviting Ken Starr to be Attorney General.

5. 60 seats
I'll take it, even if it means having him in the cabinet. Commerce Secretary isn't the biggest post either so he cant do to much harm.

10. Maybe that's part of why he's voted with democrats a lot more then you'd expect lately
Nate did an analysis on the senate GOPers, and found Gregg tied for second at voting with the democrats on major things (6 out of 7 times).

11. Gregg tight-lipped on Commerce
New Hampshire Republican Sen. Judd Gregg and his aides are tight-lipped about rumors that President Barack Obama is considering him for the still-open job of Commerce secretary.

But Democrats are delighted because it could mean they gain a pivotal seat.

Citing unidentified Senate sources, Roll Call reported Thursday evening that the Obama administration has been “floating the idea” of nominating Gregg to replace New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, who withdrew his own nomination in December.

Asked earlier Thursday whether he’d ever been offered the Commerce job, Gregg told Politico: “I am not at liberty to discuss that.”

14. This is gaining steam. Apparently Gibbs refused to comment
Gregg must have filled out the vetting forms.

I guess it makes sense for him. He was going to be a big target for the Dems in the midterms and was likely going to get beat.
