Elizabeth Edwards plans new book
February 3, 2009

(CNN) — Elizabeth Edwards has largely avoided the spotlight since her husband admitted to an extramarital affair last summer, but the wife of former presidential candidate John Edwards is certain to draw headlines when she releases a personal new book this spring.

In Resilience, scheduled for a May release, Edwards will discuss how she's dealt with difficult moments in her life — like her husband’s affair, said the publisher.

"She would exhibit…remarkable grace and courage again when the very private matter of her husband's infidelity became public fodder," Broadway Books said in a release announcing the upcoming publication of the book.

Edwards has repeatedly declined to discuss her husband's relationship with campaign videographer Rielle Hunter.

2. The whole Edwards thing was one of only a few times I let my emotions rule my head with a candidate.
For the longest time, I refused to believe the story of Edwards' infidelity. I believed the sham pretense of their public image. I guess I wanted to so badly that I just went into denial. I had read "Saving Graces" and cried so hard that I had to put the book down for a couple of days.

Her new book might have some good things in it. She is an excellent writer -- graceful, articulate, even somewhat lyrical. I know she'll do a good job with this one. Don't know if I want to put myself thru that misery again.

Edwards betrayed Elizabeth and he also betrayed me and lots others who were poised to vote for him in our primary. I never got to and ended voting for Hillary.

The bitterness I feel has not had a chance to wear off yet...

8. I understand.
I won't judge his actions, just as with Bill, it's a private matter IMO. But, the fact that the affair occurred before he ran for president is what angers most people. A lot of folks trusted and supported him. How could he not think that in the rough and tumble of the primaries this wasn't going to come out? When I think how he went after Hillary during the debates............

15. To be honest, that wasn't at the heart of my problem with him. I simply couldn't understand
how he could betray me and all the other voters out there after he had gotten our hopes up so high and spoken so nobly about the struggle of the poor. It was as if he was unfaithful to us, in a political way, as he was to Elizabeth in a personal way.

I was heartsick...

10. We listened to "Saving Graces" on CDs during a road trip.
Although we enjoyed it overall, after a while we began to fast forward through the endless passages about the death of their son.

No, I'm not a heartless bastard.
As a parent, I know that's the worst thing that can happen in your life.
It's something you can never really 'get over'.
But it just seemed to go on and on.

4. Her publisher is crazy with this statement
"“ one of the most beloved political figures in the country, and on the surface, seems to have led a charmed life,” said publishers. “In many ways, she has. Beautiful family. Thriving career. Supportive friendship. Loving marriage."

Charmed life? She lost a young son, she has incurable cancer, her loving husband betrayed their marriage at a point where she needed support most. Now, you say Michelle Obama has had a charmed life - Beautiful family. Thriving career. Supportive friendship. Loving marriage - but for EE it likely was very true until Wade died.

5. Now, Elizabeth would be a perfect choice for HHS.
she is resilient, and a fighter. She knows Health Care from all angles. She knows compassion. Just a dream of mine......

11. John Made A Really Bad Mistake... Still, Given What I've Seen Lately
and a great deal in the past... he's NOT SATAN!! I absolutely love Elizabeth, and frankly still have a place in my heart for John.

I KNOW how it feels to have a "man" do the "thing," however FORGIVENESS is good for the soul and I'm sure what is between them even now... is just that.... BETWEEN THEM! So if she feels the need for a book, I'm buying!!!

Sorry folks, I'd still take John over some of the jokers who sorta/kinda forget to pay their taxes!! My head keeps spinning with new stuff all the time!

Go ahead, SMARM me, it's JMHO!!

12. Shouldn't she be the judge of that?
There's no reason to treat her like she has one foot in the grave.

Look how long Tony Snow stayed at his job, and when he stepped down, he said it was only because he needed more health bennies (true or not).

I say, nominate her, and if she makes it through the approval process, let her work for as long as she feels she can. I think I'd feel a lot better with her in charge.

13. Well, I guess it depends how she feels.
I don't know her health condition, if she feels that she could do the job then that would be fantastic. On the other hand, would she want to move to DC? She may want to spend most of her time at home near her kids since they are so young. I remember Tony Snow and felt bad for him. Politics aside, he was a young man and his children were still little. I kept thinking of them when they showed his funeral.

I would have no problem with Elizabeth being nominated for the job, she would be a passionate advocate for health care reform.

:D

16. Having lost a father, mother, and step-mother to cancer
I'm guessing she has good days and bad days. Unfortunately, this job requires someone who only has "good" days. Still, on her good days she's 10 times better than anyone else and on her bad days I'm betting she's at least as good.

As far as John is concerned, I don't think any of us has the right to judge him. I'm sure he has had to come to the realization many times that the woman he loves may not be here tomorrow. How would any of us act under those circumstances? Elizabeth forgives him, and because of the respect I have for her that's enough for me. I preferred John in the primaries simply because of his stance on Health Care, which I am sure was shaped not only by his own experience but by Elizabeth's influence, as well. So he would be my next choice. But I know that won't happen.

18. I'm sorry about your loss.
I hate that decease, I've seen too many people been taken away before their time!!!

As you said, people have good days and bad days. It may not be feasible for her to have a demanding cabinet job, but she could still contribute on an advisory basis. As for John, at the moment he's damaged goods and Obama has had enough problems with his cabinet picks. Maybe in the future he can be appointed to some position, but I doubt that he'll ever be offered a cabinet post.

;-)

19. I don't care to read it. It's a same-ol', same-ol' cliche story. Hubby fools around...
has girlfriend...maybe has illegitimate child...wife stands by her man because he's such a good man who regrettably made a mistake, and he's really really sorry. And no, she didn't know until after he lost the nomination.

It's such a cliche. Just once I'd like to hear something refreshing, like holding the betraying spouse accountable.
