I would never have thought it would have come to this, but now we have Shelby openly stirring the birther pot, and here's everyone's favorite RW pundit Pat Buchanan with a page long diatribe in which he refers to the President as "Barack", not even Mr. Obama:

1. They did *exactly* the same thing to President Clinton.
It used to make me furious.

2. I'm surprised he didn't say "that Boy"
We all know what the underlying issue is with their disrespect toward President Obama.

6. Probably did. The editor probably had a lot of cleaning
up to do before the screed was published.

4. The GOP stomps its feet in so many varied ways.... this is but
one more and it really does hint at the mental ages of some of these folk. And "this" is what runs our country. Is it any wonder that we are where we are?

7. the media does it too
They refered to Vice President Biden as Mr. Biden. Have we ever read *anything* about Mr. Bush or Mr. Cheney? Of course not.

8. Well it may be a petty thing, but
I refused to EVER refer to Bush as President Bush. He was NOT my president. So tit for tat, I guess.

9. I'm sorry...
But this is differant from always using * in reference to President Bush how?

Before you spam the alert button, I'm not trying to defend Bush here. I just want to know how this doesn't at all seem a little hypocritical coming from here.

11. How do you know about the * thing after 18 post and 6 days being on this website
Edited on Mon Feb-23-09 09:25 PM by AllentownJake
Your knowledge of the alert button is also intiquing...took me 2 weeks to figure out that entire process and if your new why would you be worried about people alerting unless you've been alerted on before.

even though I agree with your sentiment.

14. I've been reading this website for 5 years now.
I just recently decided to start posting because I was tired of constant innacuracies of the military being put up here. Kinda upsets me to see ideological "brothers" constantly pissing on my chosen career.

Some of the strongest critism of the military I see on here though come from people who have retired from it.

21. I recently posted in a couple topics about military spending.
Lots of people way overinflating how much we really spend, and they didn't really understand how it was spent. It's easy to attack the defense industry, when you don't realize how many millions of people it employs. I've viewed a number of threads over the years that have labelled myself, and other current service members the same as the terrorists we're combating, and I intend to speak up in those discussions as well. And I'll admit, there are lots of threads I've seen like this that just didn't make much sense to me, and I've always wanted to speak up about it.

our GOVT. for SENDING our troops to Iraq-where we had no business going.

But it has happened. Just like when people call the police state sponsored terrorists. There was a thread a couple days ago like that.

getting "tired of constant innacuracies of the military" you read here. So what did you get tired of besides the NON-constant calling our troops "terrorists"?

27. If You Have Been Reading Here For 5 Years You Would Have Seen The Total Support For My Son
He was almost killed in Iraq in October '05. There was nothing but support here. My father is a retired Flag officer and I have posted about him many times and I have never heard him or Ben called a terrorist. Your post reads like a myth. It took you 5 years to start posting your poutrage? PLONK.

15. The difference is that the "*" used here is here at DU - not in the newspaper
Senators are in the public and their words carry weight.

I know DU gets the occasional mention, but really, we're not THAT important!

24. The difference is quite clear. Many people here on DU (any many other
varied sites) were the ones referring to him as "Bush" and not adding the "President" moniker. In this instance, we're talking about the MAIN STREAM MEDIA (and hell, some Senators and Congress-critters!) refusing to show the respect. Quite a difference, I'd say.

28. Well hmmm....
Edited on Mon Feb-23-09 10:16 PM by MadMaddie
I lived in TX when he was Governor and he ruined that state.

He took 3 companies that were successful companies and pushed them into bankruptcy.

He became President of the US and decided that it was best to ignore any terrorist warnings that the Clinton Administration tried to hand off to warn them.

He let Osama Bin Laden Get away

He started a war in Iraq because he had daddy issues.

He watched an American City and the Gulf citizens drown while he talked the talk but actually didn't do a thing. That is except watch Americans drown....

And the original poster is not talking about DU, so if we want to refer to him as * instead of uttering his blasphemous name here that is our right as Americans.

The poster is talking about sitting Senators and Congressman. There used to be an unwritten rule in Politics to at least show respect for the President and VP. The Republicans have proven that they are too childish and too selfish to do that if there is a Democratic Administration.

and not at all undeserved mind you, I can't believe people here would be critical for not drenching the President in formalities they themselves would not give a Republican in that office.

Me? I believe in giving respect to the office of president, no matter who occupies it. I never got into the petty name calling many here did.

I think using Obama/Bush/Clinton in a headline is perfectly acceptable. Using just a first name is fairly disrespectful, but not unexpected.

18. Uncle Pat is vehement racist, but we all know that.
He'll never refer to a black man as "Mr. President." Which is why his batshit rantings are relegated to a batshit website for "Catholics."
