Jindal earns bad reviews in national debut
Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 08:51 PM by DesertRat
It was billed as a "coming out party" for one of the GOP's most promising young stars. But after nearly universal criticism was heaped on Gov. Bobby Jindal's high-profile response to President Obama's address to Congress Tuesday night, the Louisiana Republican may be wishing he had stayed home.

The criticisms came from all sides of the political spectrum, including from those in conservative circles who have promoted the 36-year-old governor as the GOP's most likely advocate to bring the party back from the brink of irrelevance.

Republicans who have followed Jindal's upstart career from standout congressman to popular Louisiana governor know him to be an articulate and confident spokesman for the party's fundamental principles of limited government and fiscal responsibility. But that's not the man many saw delivering the GOP's formal prime-time rebuttal to President Obama's first address to a joint session of Congress.

"The Bobby Jindal you see on the Sunday shows was not the Bobby Jindal who showed up to give this speech," said CNN Senior Political Correspondent Candy Crowley. "He seemed over-coached and over-rehearsed."

7. Probably because he has an executive experience. Does not matter because he sucked.

9. The Republicans have nothing to offer
They setup George of the Jindal to give themselves some time to think of a plan.

Governors are expendable in the eyes of Washington's power elite.

on the stim, they weren't considered neutral enough to comment. I'll see if I can find it again.

ETA: Yep.

"Gov. Jindal embodies what I have long said: The Republican Party must not be simply the party of 'opposition,' but the party of better solutions," House Minority Leader John Boehner said in a Wednesday statement.

21. Snow, Collins, and Specter voted YES in a calculated move engineered by all the Republicans
The impotent Republicans are formulating a plan to establish a position from which to attack President Obama and his administration. It required three Republicans to vote in favor of the bill in order to cut off debate, and Snow, Collins, & Specter sacrificed their bodies for the team.

I can't identify what their plan is, but Jindal is one of the players. He is a decoy drawing the attention of the Democratic Party and the Main Stream Media. Look at the flap over the meaningless "Oh God" comment. We are wasting our time nit-picking Jindal over volcanoes while the Republicans are setting up an 'end run' in congress.

5. Actually, Bill Clinton's Coming Out Was Also A Disaster
Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 08:56 PM by MannyGoldstein
He spent an interminable amount of time nominating Mike Dukakis at the 1988 Democratic convention:

It was Godawful.

There's very little that's I can see that's positive about Clinton, but he has sure as Hell learned to give a great speech since then.

6. I've seen a LOT
of reporters use that line...that the Bobby Jindal who showed up last Sunday on MTP did not show up last night. Heh, he SUCKED on MTP! But it was more like no charisma vs the surprising corniness of last night.

8. i've seen him speak before and he was okay, his message sucked but his presentation
was fine, i don't who he was trying to appeal to last night but it didn't work. I'm sure we won't be seeing the Jindal again, time for his pr flak and media coaches to work him over.

expect version 2.1 in a few weeks.

15. I heard Crowley this morning on Stephanie Miller trying her best to prop...
up Jindal's horrid performance. "He seemed nervous"; he's better in other settings, blah..blah..blah".

Candy tries, unsuccessfully, to mask her hardcore rightwing bent.

20. They made him look like an idiot. Jindal is good on his feet
and he has a smidge of charisma. You could see that at the presser outside the White House on Monday. His tone was sort of pleasant even if what he said was bs. He smiled at reporters and his eye contact was decent.

But if you look at the pix in the OP: Notice how creepy the staging is. You have to squint to even see him. Jindal isn't an idiot, he just plays one in the Republican Party. If they can make even him look completely devoid of any interest at all, they really are sunk because they don't have anyone better than him.
