Obama Team To Ramp Up Attacks on Repugs - Aggressively Defend Policies, Plouffe Designed Strategy
According to Politico...

Post-Rush: Obama's message war
By: Mike Allen
March 14, 2009 06:41 PM EST

Beginning Sunday, the White House will harness every part of the Democratic Party’s machinery to defend President Obama’s budget and portray Republicans as reflexively political, according to party strategists.

A participant in the planning meetings described the push as a successor to Democrats’ message that Rush Limbaugh is the Republican Party leader. “We have exhausted the use of Rush as an attention-getter,” the official said.

David Plouffe, manager of Obama’s presidential race, helped design the strategy, which includes the most extensive activation since November of the campaign’s grassroots network. The database—which includes information for at least 10 million donors, supporters and volunteers—will now be used as a unique tool for governing, with former canvassers now being enlisted to mobilize support for the president’s legislative agenda.

Others involved in the planning included White House senior adviser David Axelrod; the DNC chairman, Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine; and DNC Executive Director Jennifer O'Malley Dillon.

The plan follows the private complaints of some Democrats that Obama let the GOP get the better of him during the debate over pork in the budget bill he just signed, and growing concerns among some Democrats that charges of big spending could stick to the president.

Starting this week, President Obama will be “engaging directly with Congress more, and speaking more forcefully on behalf of his budget,” a top adviser said.

On Sunday morning, three top White House officials will appear on network interview shows to describe brighter days ahead for the nation’s economy, and make the case that the budget is an important part of the president’s overall recovery plan.

And officials throughout the party plan to hammer the idea that Republicans are just saying “no” to the president’s budget plans without offering their own alternative.

1. Its too bad Obama sold me on the idea of coming together for
the common interest.

Why oh why do I believe this stuff. I guess I'm not cynical enough.

4. Oh, considering your past posts, you're cynical enough. POTUS has
gone overboard with trying to come together for the common interest to no avail. It would appear you were not really "sold" on many ideas of President Obama's. You're among the first to post any negatives and I'm sold on the idea that you might be on the wrong board. Flame away....

8. I admit I'm not much of a cheerleader.
I'm a pragmatist and I want things to just get done.

I still think Obama is one of the most brilliant people I know and it gets me frustrated when stuff like this happens.

I really did think we could get beyond partisanship. Obama was getting props for at least trying. I'm not sure how this will go over.

14. If you think that you can actually work with Republicans- you're no pragmatist
You're naive- and dangerously so,

15. I'm surrounded by Republicans.
I have to work with them all the time so I know its possible to work together.

But my family is True Blue Dem and union. I kind of wish I had a Government job. That is where the only true security comes from. I would have had enough years of service to be sitting pretty had I gone that route.

16. Well, that doesn't translate into the federal (or even most states') policy levels

You're talking dishonest ideologues here- backed by well funded and equally dishonest interest groups that aren't interested in responsible government.

It's enough trouble to deal with the corrupt, so called "moderate" Democrats. Add Republicans to the mix is simply a guarantee of failure.

7. so what's he supposed to do give the repubs EVERYTHING they want in the name
of nonpartisan politics? No he's got to fight for the people and not the corporations. I hope that happens.

by themselves that the Republicans are idiots.

But when you turn it into a talking point it seems more contrived.

Let them dig their own grave.

And the best thing Obama has going for him is the impression that he is the bigger person than the other guy. Being magnanimous always wins points.

12. Republicans only understand talking points. If it doesn't fit on a bumper sticker ...........
then a Republican doesn't understand the message.

9. Um, no. He tried. He gave the appearance of "bipartisanship"
It did not work and now is the time to push aggressively for his agenda against the Republicans. Prez Obama is not stupid.

11. Its about god damn time...but better late then never.

Dammit Mr President .. you thought these pubs acted in good faith?

I guess that stimulus vote was a good shot of cold reality when you gave pubs concessions then they back stab you with a unanimous vote against it in the house. Then your friend Joe Liebershit helps sabotage a cabinet nominee.

Now get in the foxhole ..read the blogs, make your talking points, and tell big media to make room for you...or else no access.

We will cover your back...

13. It's about time!
This "unity" nonsense is getting out of hand.
The Republicans have decided that they will try to destroy Obama instead of helping the world.
