Obama's second official press conference
On day 64 of his presidency, Barack Obama talked to the Press at the White House for the second time.

I must admit that I've been a bit angry with the president---because I think he's not doing his duty by letting the last administration off the hook. They were war criminals--undeniably so--and must be brought to justice!
Not to fully back this need is nothing short of condoning these activities and is close to being criminal in itself. I know that we are in crisis mode in every which way, but we cannot set a good example unless these war criminals are brought to justice.

The law must be followed by everyone, especially by the people at the top, and I'm extremely disappointed that this is not happening here. Speaking out about Cheney's treacherous comments was a start, but please President Obama, you must stick to some of your campaign promises--if you want a second term.

Those were my feelings until I saw you again today!

But as soon as you began talking--I felt your incredible power--which comes through your wonderful intellect and empathy--and somehow becomes a soothing, comforting almost fatherly voice, whom I trust with my life--even though I am almost old enough to be your mother. Once again I can feel proud of America and hopeful for the future of this wonderful place.

I'm not letting you off the hook n the Torture prosecutions--but I am giving you a lot more time to deal with it....that's the best I can do for now.

I wish that there were a few more worthy members of the press to ask you questions next time---and please keep coming out in public!
That is the best way to go because you'll always have the people on your side.

We see through all those idiots who constantly pick on you, saying that you're taking on too much/too little/, you are too glum/too cheerful, too liberal/not liberal enough and so on it goes.

I don't remember that the press ever questioned the last prez this way---ever.
He took us to an unjust, unnecessary war and spent the rest of his time holidaying on his fake ranch. What a change!

So I just want to say it again, thank you President Obama, for everything you're doing and trying to do too..

3. Sorry-- I was distracted by one of my cats...but
I wanted to ask --do you then think it is just a matter of time before he comes on board with this notion of holding 'them' responsible?

I know he can stay out of the limelight in all this--and still approve the notion of justice--but rumor has it that 'it's off the table'...and we've heard that before.

What happened to John Conyer's investigation? Also Dennis Kucinich wanted an investigation--but all I've heard lately is the so called Truth Commission--which would grant immunity--and that is not right!

I often wondered through the last few years how much 'behind the scene wrangling' might go on, even blackmail and threats, and or simply 'tit for tat'--as the last adm. was certainly the most dangerous we've had.

As it stands now Mr. Obama has had more threats than any other president in history....if you follow my gist!

4. I think he has to forge forward, and cannot send the signal that
his administration will be about recriminations as his top agenda, but....

This President appears to be one that will let the system work the way that it should, and will cooperate when it is required. I don't think he will stand in front of those who are determined to take the Bush Admin to task. However, I don't believe he wants any investigation to get in the way of his agenda he has set forth for the American people. He only has 4 short years to truly make a difference to the lives of Americans, before he has to once again present himself to the American people.....

And so whatever happens in reference to Bush/Cheney has to be done in a systematic, legal and level headed approach.

I think that this is the right approach.

It is like election reforms and FCC reforms. I want those ASAP, but I understand that he cannot be mired in those debates at this time.

Let him buy the kind of capital he needs to have (a healthier economy on the way back to recovery) so that when actions for Justice in all that has happened in the last 8 years is called on, they will be seen as they should; as an organic, natural and systematically tight matter of justice.

Panetta has just got in there, and he's just getting his bearing. Same with Holder. Give them time, since they do have it for the time being. :)

7. you hit the big point, frenchie- holder and panetta
it is not the presidents job to prosecute anyone. BUT a big thing that he is doing is declassifying things. this was a huge impediment to any accountability on anything. if he keeps putting these records out, soon there will be a paper trail.
i think that secrecy was bushco's #1 weapon. he is whittling that down to a toothpick.
we shall see what will happen next. but he has put some good people in the right places.

8. I am certain that between all the hearings..
Waxman and Conyers had they are sitting on plenty of 'toxic assets' concerning the Bush Administration. I am hoping that after the budget, health-care, the EFCA, and other must do legislation the Congress can go for it. I would think that it would dove-tail nicely with the 2010 election as well.

6. K+R
I have to agree with some of the replies in this thread. Politically it is just too difficult to make the Bush prosecutions a big part of his agenda, especially with the economic crisis dominating the headlines.

It is indeed amazing what a difference it makes just listening to the President talk. He is a once in a lifetime orator, I believe. Beyond that, he commands such trust because I believe he is truly worthy of the the world's trust.
