CORP. MEDIA MEME: Obama has to hurry up and do stuff before his popularity erodes!
I have heard this said over and over again by most talking heads.

Why do they "expect" this president's popularity to go away?
Why is it not possible for his popularity to increase?

President Clinton's popularity was higher at the time he came out of office,

So what's he point of them repeating this meme each and everyday?

What do they know that they aren't saying?

Are they working so hard to have him fail,
that they already know what is going to happen?

I understand that there is certainly the possibility that his numbers "might" come down...
but I wonder why the media feels compeled to always make this a point as though it is a given.

1. What they don't seem to get is
is that if he gets most of this stuff done, his popularity will not go away, in fact, it could climb even higher. That's what scares the shit out of them, too.

2. I think they're praying to god that if they throw enough shit out there, it'll increase
their chances of being RIGHT about SOMETHING.

4. And they're still obsessed with getting a Republican back in the White House
So the whole thing can go back to the cozy little wordgame it was from 1980 to 1992 and from 2000 to 2008, where "everyone knows" that the rich have to get what they want(and where the reporters all got to hang out with the GOP at the parties with the best booze and the best buffets).

Obama knows his popularity is likely to be lower next year than it is right now, so it's time to get the framework (money) in place to fulfill his agenda. Seems like a wise thing and I don't see any downside to it. The concerned media will continue talking about his "political capital" which not a soul outside of DC gives a crap about. They think they can give it or take it away, but they still underestimate the power of the internet.

to end the press conference;

"This is a big Ocean Liner....it's not a speed boat, it doesn't turn around immediately"

14. I don't know enough about Roosevelt to be conversational
but I think Roosevelt was able to keep passing legislation throughout his two terms. If he would not have died in his third, he would have been able to do more.

Obama has already made history. If there is a historical trend about political vigor in the first year of the first term, then he can make a new historical fact true: press his agenda all the way through his presidential term.

I don't think I understand the consistent pressure in the press to have a conclusion before they know what the actual facts are. If they gather the facts, we will draw our own conclusions.

15. "If they gather the facts"........that's the part that is lacking, IMO....
as for us drawing our own conclusion, since they don't bother to gather the facts, the conclusions we reach are normally based on misinformation or omission of such, unless we are extra diligent, and that is not how it should be....alas.

19. I think we are on the same page when it comes to expecting facts from the media.
BTW, I think bloggers and online newspapers should deal in facts too.

When I have an opinion sometimes I think my opinion is fact. It takes a honest broker to come along and tell me my facts are simply my opinion. I am willing to concede when I am wrong. I acknowledge that I am wrong QUITE A BIT, but I do try to get the real facts so I can have an informed opinion.

I guess we agree in two places.

16. Roosevelt was able to pass legislation pretty easily until 1938 when the Republicans won back
Congress. In addition, Roosevelt also had to deal with a conservative Supreme Court (like Obama has).

18. What was the last piece of legislation Roosevelt was able to pass before Congress changed over?
SemiCharmedQuark, thanks for giving me a base line. I didn't think this 'historical fact' was an actual fact.

I knew the Supreme Court was a problem for Roosevelt until he threatened to pack the court.

17. well, he must have taken this job for the fun of it!!!
i mean, he didn't need to be the president. he actually wants to get things done. i think that is why people are trusting him and his popularity has stayed steady. the msm wants his popularity to erode. and they think that if they say it enough it will become the truth. once his popularity wanes a bit, he will need them, when right now he doesn't.
