** WHAT IF? **
Edited on Thu Mar-26-09 09:08 AM by President Decider
This is always a fun game to play ....

WHAT IF?

"WHAT IF" ...this past year wasn't an election year and President Bush and VP Cheney still had a few years left on their tenure? What if they were the ones dealing with this economic calamity and making decisions on how to get us out of it over the past 2-3 months?

How much worse off would our country be right now?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After watching President Obama speak to the country the other night, I'm convinced that a crisis this big, this complex and foundationally deep rooted can .... and will ... only be solved by the smartest and most practicle minds in the world. While some of the presidents critics may be asking for shorter answers, but the reality of the situtaion is that there are no "short" cliff notes type of answers to a crisis of this magnitude. It would be different if one or two things were broke and he was putting a quick fix (band-aid) on the problem, but this issue is broken at its core. If it were a building and the foundation of the building were broke, the only solution is to tear down the building and pour a new foundation that can support the structure. That's basically what President Obama was left with when he took office, a gutted and broken building, missing all its furnishings from thieves in the night, that is now empty and sitting upon an eroding foundation.
In closing, I'll say that I've always been a practicle person that understands when there are easy soltions to problems and when there are not. Our current conomic crisis is not one of them. Our economy has been living on "borrorwed time" the past 10 years or so. Some people would even say since the Regan era even thought I think we could have survived what Repubs did in his era had it not been for poor and inept stewardship of our country in the past 10 years. The Repubs used the landscape that Regan created over the past 8 years to run it extreme levels of capitalist whoreism with virtually no oversight whatsoever. While I'm not knocking capitalism, because I think it's a viable engine that keeps the economic engine running, I am knocking the GOP blueprint of capitalism that allows ZERO oversight controls. Mark my words, this model will fail every time because the truest form of capitalism requires one ingredient in order to be successful ..... HUMAN INTEGRITY.
Mark my words: If we have to rely on human integrity when billions upon billions of dollars are being floated around right in front of the noses of the very people who have their hands on the levers of our economy, . . . greed will win EVERY time.
Patience is a virtue my friends, make no mistake about it, we will climb out of this ditch. There is no other person on this planet that I'd rather have solving this enigma wrapped in a riddle than President Barack Obama; hands down the smartest individual we could have imagined that came to us at the perfect time in history.
