Legalize Hemp - In ALL of its forms
As ridiculous as the argument against pot is, it's not likely that we will ever see legalization, as long as the issue is framed as that of a recreational "drug".

Even medicinal marijuana will have a tough time passing, on a federal level - primarily because Big Pharma hates anything they can't patent.

Industrial hemp though, that's different. Fiber....seed (as a protein source)...... biofuels..... There's something that could get widespread "bipartisan" support right now. In this fucked up economy, it makes no sense NOT to grow hemp.

And once hemp is legalized, criminalizing pot will make no sense at all, since the DEA spy planes won't be able to tell one crop from the other.

2. Exactly.
But, my guess is that is also exactly why they won't legalize it. The drug companies, big agricultural companies, oil companies, cotton industry, et al will never allow it.

3. You realize marijuana was made illegal to destroy the hemp industry
the "drug" issue is really a smokescreen.

4. Yeah, I know the whole story
I also know that some of the industries involved in that scam now wish they could take it back. The timber industry, for example. They knew that an acre of hemp could produce infinitely more pulp and paper than an acre of trees. That was bad news for them when there were plenty of trees. Now that they have overharvested themselves into oblivion, they wish they could plant hemp in some of their clearcuts rather than trees, because it would produce a lot faster.
