to get people back to work. It's the Republicans who had the 'unemployment' plan.

They only cared about the wealthy staying employed. They didn't care about the jobs moving overseas, which causes unemployment.

16. Steven......I have a question for you about those unemployment numbers......

My understanding is that the unemployment figures are partially derived from how many are collecting unemployment benefits. If that is so, considering that Obama extended unemployment benefits, wouldn't that make the unemployment figure seem larger than what it might have been under the last administration? Could this change in policy be one of the reasons that the unemployment figure continues to climb as it has? Of course, the Obama numbers are much more accurate as to our percentage of unemployed is in this nation, but if we are comparing them to prior numbers, aren't we making a mistake in the sense that I outlined?
I clearly remember that there was always a sour taste when folks discussed the unemployment figures because they always stated that this figure really didn't count those who had ran out of benefits as well as those who had stopped looking for work.

President Obama authorized extended unemployment benefits, also referred to as Emergency Unemployment Compensation, through 2009, by signing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Stimulus Act).

To be eligible for extended unemployment benefits, unemployed workers must have first exhausted their 26 weeks of standard benefits among other eligibility requirements. The weekly compensation amount is the same as standard unemployment compensation, which varies by state.
