GOP: President Obama snubbed us
Republican leaders in the House complained on Friday that President Barack Obama is blowing them off after he seemed to ignore their weeks-old request for a meeting to discuss health care reform.

Last month, Republican leaders in the House asked Obama for a meeting on the issue before Congress embarks on its summer adventure, but in his reply sent on Friday night, Obama makes no mention of their request, according to a copy obtained by POLITICO.

"There's too much at stake to get health care reform wrong, and it's disappointing that the Administration is choosing a go-it-alone approach," said Antonia Ferrier, a spokeswoman for Republican Leader John Boehner.

The White House did not immediately respond to a Friday evening request for comment on the letter.

This epistolary duel between the president and GOP leaders on Capitol Hill is a predictable precursor to the nitty-gritty of health care negotiations as the White House scrambles for a bill.

This past week, Obama met with Democrats on two key Senate committees, but not their Republican counterparts. And though his staff is meeting with moderate Republicans in the House, he has not yet met with party leaders to discuss health care reform.

Obama also made sure his budget bill included protections that would allow him to jam health care legislation through the Senate with a simple majority vote, preventing Republicans from waging a filibuster.

Despite the calls for a bipartisan bill, clear partisan divides are already starting to emerge, as Republicans are making the case that Democrats aren't following through on their promises to reach across the aisle. Obama's letter — dated June 2, but not sent until Friday, June 5 — feeds into that narrative.

4. Could it be that President Obama has tired of their games?
He strikes me as a man who has little patience for their kind of nonsense. Why waste his time? They will all vote against whatever he endorses anyway. The man is not stupid.

8. Their endless whining is getting very, very old
Endless blubbering, wailing, simpering, sniveling, bellyaching, carping, droning on and on, fussing and fuming, griping, grousing, grumbling, howling, kicking, mewling, moaning and groaning, murmuring, puling, repining, sobbing, whimpering and yowling.

I love the Thesaurus!

10. Republicans who may read this; YOU LOST, and YOU ARE LOSING
more and more support every day thanks to YOUR OWN WORDS AND ACTIONS!!!

You deserve no respect for being the party of NO and for spreading the filth and hatred you have so obviously enjoyed. I sincerely hope you will disappear as a national party after you lose again in 2010.
I am a 61 year old white male Army veteran gun owner, who you would think might be a Republican, but I hate your sorry party and want to see it die...sooner rather than later.
Have a nice day.

19. I echo your sentiments. I am a vet also and a gun owner.
I hate to use the word, but it is the only one that applies. Fuck every Republican in the country. They are nothing but obstructionists, racists and nitwit fundamentalists. Its too bad these end-timers can't magically disappear as they wish and we could get back to repairing the damage that they have done to our nation.

14. Didn't he try to meet with them at some point and THEY snubbed HIM?
:wtf:

Plus, didn't some GOP candidate (and Frank Lutz) basically admit that they DON'T have a plan, anyway? The only thing that Lutz suggested was that the GOP pay some "lip service" to the problem and acknowledge that things aren't perfect but basically refuse to do anything about it. Did I miss something?

What's THEIR plan? C'mon, Senate Democrats! You got all huffy and puffy about Obama's "lack of a plan" to close Gitmo! Call the Repukes out about THEIR "lack of plans" about health care! Obama and the Dems should demand the Repukes come up with a plan or basically just ignore them!

Hopefully, somebody on our side has the cast-iron balls to remind them of this!

water any reform bill down and use their conversations for anti-Democratic talking points. That's their goal of "discussion".

31. They've been doing all their talking in the media. What is it that they think O doesn't already
What is it that they think Obama doesn't already know about what they want?

If they REALLY wanted to talk about it, they'd request the meeting and keep their mouths on TV shut. But I see the Repubs all over TV critizing the "socialistic health care" plan that the libruls are gonna force down everyone's throat, and then force them to pay for.

I'll never forget that O started off his administration with meetings with the GOP on the stimulus plan and other things. The result was NO votes at all on one important bill, and THREE votes on another. The meetings had produced not even one vote that wouldn't ordinarily have gone for either bill. Even though they had been listened to, and some concessions had been made. It seemed to me to only be a trick to water the bills down, and they had no intention of voting for a Democratic bill to begin with, no matter what. (Except, of course, if it was a conservative Republican bill, which couldn't happen since, duh, the current administration is not Republican.)

Maybe the administration is playing hard ball now. They surely KNOW that the Republicans are NOT going to vote for ANY health care reform act coming from the Democrats. Hell, it's going to be hard enough to get a bill that the DEMOCRATS will vote for.

how?

This President has repeatedly tried to reach across to them so at some point he should just tell them - a-la Rahm Emanuel - go f**ck yourself. After all, this is what both the Reagan and Jr. administrations have done.
