4. Don't let the naysayers bother you.
One has to have hope, hope does not suck and will never suck.

What sucks are those who make fun of hope and how try to dash the hopes of others.

The hopeless fools will always be miserable, you can never make them happy.

5. Still,
hope is not our last recourse. Look to yourself and look honestly at the people surround you. Fuck hope: you can grab hold of reality and be comforted. I swear it.

12. Count your blessings, Uncle Sam grants you the FREEdom to hope,...
in his Land of the FREE and Home of the Brave!
Hey, think for a minute of those poor wretches living under the thumb of governments that use their tax dollars to provide universal health care, public transportation, education, instead of perpetual WAR!?

What the fuck do THEY have to hope for!?
---------------------------------------------------------

Go back to bed, America, your government has figured out how it all transpired. Go back to bed America, your goverment is in control. Here, here's American Gladiators. Watch this, shut up, go back to bed America, here is American Gladiators, here is 56 channels of it! Watch these pituitary retards bang their fucking skulls together and congratulate you on the living in the land of freedom. Here you go America - you are free to do what we tell you! You are free to do what we tell you!

19. Amused to Death
Doctor Doctor what is wrong with me
This supermarket life is getting long
What is the heart life of a colour TV
What is the shelf life of a teenage queen
Ooh western woman
Ooh western girl
News hound sniffs the air
When Jessica Hahn goes down
He latches on to that symbol
Of detachment
Attracted by the peeling away of feeling
The celebrity of the abused shell the belle
Ooh western woman
Ooh western girl
And the children of Melrose
Strut their stuff
Is absolute zero cold enough
And out in the valley warm and clean
The little ones sit by their TV screens
No thoughts to think
No tears to cry
All sucked dry
Down to the very last breath
Bartender what is wrong with me
Why I am so out of breath
The captain said excuse me ma'am
This species has amused itself to death
Amused itself to death
Amused itself to death
We watched the tragedy unfold
We did as we were told
We bought and sold
It was the greatest show on earth
But then it was over
We oohed and aahed
We drove our racing cars
We ate our last few jars of caviar
And somewhere out there in the stars
A keen-eyed look-out
Spied a flickering light
Our last hurrah
And when they found our shadows
Groups 'round the TV sets
They ran down every lead
They repeated every test
They checked out all the data in their lists
And then the alien anthropologists
Admitted they were still perplexed
But on eliminating every other reason
For our sad demise
They logged the only explanation left
This species has amused itself to death
No tears to cry
No feelings left
This species has amused itself to death
Amused itself to death

President Obama has been doing pretty good, and when I need "hope", I plan on using it.

16. .
"If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost:
that is where they should be. Now, put foundations under them."

-- Henry David Thoreau

hope got us where we are. hope got us a democratic president. a good one. a potentially great one. now the foundation needs to be laid underneath our castle in the air. policies need to be formed and implemented. we as Americans need to be that foundation and bring to the forefront everything we want changed about our country. our voices must be overwhelming like a tide crashing against the shore. the castle in the sky is truly wonderful. our president is wonderful. but the foundation must be there or the castle will fall.

17. Edna St Vincent Millay said " Hope is the Thing With Feathers"
Woody Allen wrote a book called "Without Feathers" playing off the title. Hope is only a precursor even for Edna, hope is the feathers, not the flight. All the feathers in the world, at some point you still have to expend energy and take a daring leap off the edge in order to take flight.

Dirge without music is one of the darkest and lightest poems I've ever read (besides perhaps Thanatopsis by William Cullen Bryant).
