Kerry dismantling all the Repub/strawman/timid arguments of the day. (updated)
Edited on Tue Sep-29-09 01:45 PM by ProSense
Liveblogging here and here (toward the end of this one)

Updated to add some comments from the liveblogging:

John Kerry pushes the straw man down

Sing it, John! What DO they fear?

"What are they afraid of - That Americans may like it?"

Given that there is a choice, how is that bad?

Kerry is being kind of amazing
He sounds fired up and is discussing the monopolies again. Debunks the entitlement vs. option thing.

    Kerry shoots down entitlement drivel

    WOOT! KERRY!
We are not talking about a product like a car... we are talking about care, care for human beings who might be helped with CARE!

Kerry is being philanthropic discussing peoples' happiness, or lack thereof, with their health care.

Kerry is hitting it out of the park.

Sen Kerry is a deeper human and person than these Republicans. He has more heart and he is more thoughtful than they are!

"I strongly support this measure" -Kerry
    cool.

Kerry... manages the intellectual feat that has defied the Republican side of the table all day... the difference between an entitlement program, and self-sustaining, non-for profit, public corporation like the Public Option.

Kerry's arguments great combination of solid facts, brillian reasoning, and heart.

Great argument - the Republicans have been trying to get people to fear the public option. But, as it is a choice, how can it BOTH be bad and people want it?

6. Kerry, Schumer and Rockefeller were very strong
To me the surprise was Rockefeller as he typically is not at all dynamic.

9. So, what is the Republican response to Kerry's articulate, intelligence case for a public option? -
Edited on Tue Sep-29-09 09:30 PM by karynnj
They attack Heinz ketchup! Now, Teresa Heinz Kerry does not run Heinz. She runs a philanthropy funded years ago.

It really seems that some Republicans are still jealous that the beautiful, brilliant - and wealthy - Teresa married John Kerry.

12. May be a dumb question, but
Edited on Tue Sep-29-09 11:10 PM by politicasista
it's another reason not to fool with politics or political blogs on weekends.

Hope no one flames me for this :hide:, but Kerry is for the PO and on record as being so, but after the interview he did on This Week the weekend of Kennedy's funeral, the blogger thought that Kerry somewhat fill in the blank (sounds like that infamous AP spin article) on the PO.

As a silly, curious lurker, I e-mailed the link and he/she responded, saying thanks for the criticism, but that he/she was cautious and wanted to wait and see where everyone stands on this issue. (Really!) I keep reading various comments that President Obama is on record as saying he will not sign any bill without the public option.

Of course, we know now the people that do not support this.

13. Kerry was completely unambiguous in his support of the public option
what the blogger (and others) wanted was a statement that Kerry would not say either for himself or as what he thought Kenendy would do. That was to state that if the PO could not pass, they would not vote for anything less. Kerry said they weren't at that point and they were fighting for the public option. When pushed to answer the question. He gave a sensible answer, that if a bill was written without a public option, it would depend on there being enough good or not.

The problem I had was that the same bloggers were taking anything - a yes on Dean's or Bower's lists, any comment, and comment from anyone else, anyone saying the Senator's office said - to place the person on the list as for the public option. Though Kerry had done ALL these things - even more than once, it was ridiculous that he was singled out. His history - over 24 years - does not show him ever not doing the right thing on healthcare. This simply reflects an idiotic special probation that some put Kerry on -- as they extoll the virtues of people with far less liberal records.

14. That makes sense
The unfortunate thing was everything was taken out of context. (Like the media does with Obama and Dems).

And yes, people are acting like Kerry should be put on some special Liberal, Progressive (Democrat) Probation just because he didn't say what they wanted to hear or vote the way they want him to vote. And it's usually after doing something positive or making news (usually after a good interview). It's like clockwork. (They do this Obama too).

Everything in your post is spot on. Thanks. :hi:
