Senator Reid: "No one shows me how to get to 60 votes with a public option," Here's how!

Let the Republicans filibuster, if they dare, until you have achieved 60 votes to end their filibuster!

Interesting fact. The Senate Republicans haven't even threatened a filibuster against a bill that includes a strong public option. Perhaps because they believe Congress won't pass such a bill once it comes out of a House/Senate conference and understand that Obama isn't insisting on a public option.

President Obama will sign any health care "insurance reform" bill that might be passed by Congress.

1. By all means, make them fillibuster!
On EVERYTHING they want to try and oppose, not just health care.

7. I don't understand why the republicans can not filibuster it. With Lieberman, they would stop it.
Where am I wrong here?

17. The poster is wrong
see the well documented Wikipedia article on filibusters: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filibuster

Procedural filibuster

In current practice, Senate Rule 22 permits filibusters in which actual continuous floor speeches are not required, although the Senate Majority Leader may require an actual traditional filibuster if he or she so chooses.

3. Oh I agree with him
60 votes for a PO health care bill does not add up. Indeed.

Fortunately, the PO can be passed with 50 votes (plus Joe Biden) in the reconciliation process.

14. They have many tools available to them to get around it. Constantly saying they need
60 is just a way to cover their butt's with their constituents.

OMG!!!11!

As a courtesy and a matter of principle, (I believe) the Blue Dogs will not stop cloture even if they don't vote for the bill when up/down time comes.

13. Reid is a sorry excuse for a majority leader.
We'd be much better off with a few less Democrats in the senate, and a stronger leader.

As long as Reid lets the Republicans get away with blocking every conceivable piece of legislation with the mere 'threat' of a fillibuster, Mitch Mcconnell is the true Leader of the Senate!

15. Any Democrat who casts a vote with the Republicans on a procedural issue,
cloture, should be tossed out of the party. Fine if they want to vote against the bill, but they should not vote against cloture.
