3. The vote's on Friday Cha, result due to be announced 11.30am Chicago time
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 02:51 PM by Jackeens
Most of the International Olympic Committee's members have only one significant decision-making role, and they get to exercise it only every two years.

Secretly.

That role is voting for Olympic host cities in an election that since 1991 has taken place seven years before the Winter or Summer Olympics in question.

The balloting in Copenhagen on Friday, when the IOC chooses Chicago, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo or Madrid as host of the 2016 Summer Games, is planned to last about an hour.

The result will be announced on a global telecast beginning at 11:30 a.m. Chicago time, at least an hour after voting is scheduled to end. Because of the time lapse, the suspense undoubtedly will turn the supporters of each candidate into emotional basket cases.

4. Pele!
Good to see him.

But the U.S. is bringing some big guns - POTUS and FLOTUS, Oprah and Michael Johnson?

Tough choice for the IOC!

11. O/T about Oprah, but
she had commented a while back about how upset she was at herself for not being able to keep it off despite all her work.

I guess it goes to show that it doesn't matter how much money someone has - they have to stay mentally committed to it.

13. and how a body wants to be what a body wants to be.
Edited on Wed Sep-30-09 03:11 PM by SoCalDem
I have known people who have lost that same 20 lbs over and over and over and over..and in the end, they are heavier each time they gain it back plus a few more...

I hate being "overweight", but I made peace with it long ago.. I buy bigger clothes, and try to eat carefully, but I know I will never be that 103lb girl I used to be.. age and lifestyle catches up with us all, unless we are blessed with fantastic genes. No matter how svelte I was when I was young, I ended up with the same body as both grandmothers and my own mother :(

16. I know what you mean
Out of five girls, I was the one to inherit my mother's genes along with several health problems that cause weight gain. I have lost some weight several times but then physical limitations have gotten the best of me and I just have to accept who I am.

24. Yeah, I know what you mean.
My one sister got my father's skinny genes and she made remarks about me ever since I was a teenager. (I was skinny then but was large framed) Now she has a daughter-in-law that has an illness that causes her to gain weight. Suddenly everyone is suppose to understand this.

The rest of my sisters vary in their frame but most of them do not have big weight problems. My one brother does. My problem stems not only from my fat genes but from several illnesses that cause weight gain, complicated by problems with my bones and muscles. By the way, the last time I talked to her, my sister was singing a different tune about my situation also as she compared me to her son's wife and how people acted toward her.

22. We'll know the winner on Friday!
This was news to me .... for some reason I thought the committee would have longer to decide ..... anyway, while anything is possible, and Barack Obama is not the perfect solution to any situation, the fact that we'll know the answer by the TIME he comes HOME just further convinces me the thing is locked. It would look pretty bad to COME HOME a "loser."

(and just an aside, I KNOW he cant fix any problem because MOnday night I had a flat .... I was listening to "Audacity" on audiobook in the car and all during the crisis, he just kept talking and talking .... there I was stuck on the side of the freeway and he was talking some crap about fixing health care, TOTALLY oblivous to my plight! I was like, "Obama why!!!!" I finally had to just turn him off, he wasn't helping at all. Sadly, Barack Obama CANNOT solve any problem. It was a very disheartening moment. :) )
