Former state GOP chief entering race for governor
Saying it's time to “take this state back from professional politicians,” Tucson attorney and Republican John Munger has entered the 2010 race for governor.

Munger, 62, has been preparing for a gubernatorial run since January through his founding of a political action committee known as ImagineArizona, and formalized his campaign by filing paperwork with the state. With his entry, the former state universities regent and chairman of the Arizona Republican Party becomes the most prominent candidate to date to make his gubernatorial bid official.

“I'm not a professional politician. I'm going to be a citizen governor,” Munger told reporters Friday at the Capitol. “I know how to lead, and I know how to govern.”

He plans to launch his campaign Tuesday in Casa Grande with a four-day statewide tour that will include stops in Phoenix, Tucson, Prescott, Yuma and Kingman.
