What Obama should say vis a vie The Dali Lama.
Edited on Wed Oct-07-09 08:13 AM by zeemike
"The Dali Lama knows, probably more than anyone else on the earth, why I did not meet with him".

If they wanted to disprove that statement they would have to ask the Dali Lama...and what do you think he would say?

1. The Dalai Lama is a holy man.. but I know what I would say.
Obama knows that China has to be appeased because
of trade and the economy, the dollar and the debt.
Poor Tibet and human rights just don't matter in
that light.

5. I don't think he would say that at all.
He understands how peace is made, and it is rarely in your face diplomacy.

13. all the Dalai Lama has to do is renounce his secular position as head of Government
for the Tibetan government in exile and then he can meet world leaders as the head of a religious sect and not as head of government thereby always unnecessarily complicating his position in the world.

Tibet has a long history and their government is unique but it has the will of the people.

21. The "God King" of Tibet is about as "holy" as Glenn Beck! He's a fraud!

President Obama should not meet with him or kiss his hand, finger or any other body part.

2. 'Meat'? It's weird this meeting was cancelled. Someone needs to say something good.
Folks are now saying Obama is trying to kiss up to the Chinese.

4. Thanks I changed that.
It is not a mater of appeasement, it is a peace gesture.

23. I would rather Obama appease China than appease the anti-China crowd
At least appeasing China might get something done. Photo-ops with the Dalai Lama don't do shit for Tibetian autonomy and everybody seems to get that fact except the anti-China crowd.

..... and the day before.

Per usual, the press is making an issue where there is none.

I get my hot topics on the right from a long time acquaintance and don't have TV.
But it is good to know that Gibbs hit it right back to them.

10. CSPAN always has it.......
.... both live and available for later viewing.

The White House does too, but is a little slower getting it uploaded.

I was hoping for a Pierre Salinger or a Jerald terHorst.

6. Dali Lama would probably simply tell the truth
and that probably would not be so great for DC.
