Don't Fall For It
The Nobel Peace Prize puts a huge, and I mean huge, bump to Obama's influence and prestige and standing.

Let that point sink in for a moment.

The naysayers are doing everything in their power to minimize the impact, some even trying to get you to believe that it's an actual negative.

It ain't gonna work.

3. LOL
Yeah I expect it. But you know what. Mr Scorpio wrote a great thread about democrats pushing back. What is see also, is DUers starting to push back too. And what I like about it, it mirrors what happens in the media. The first knee-jerk reaction to all things Obama is always immediately negative. But just let them shoot their load first, just like Obama does, and then push back.

2. Fall for it? Not going to. Naysayers cannot extinguish the joy I feel. Bring it on...
They're simply jealous that they have no joy and don't know how to dance.

Nobel Prize Winning Barack Hussein Obama... mmm mmm mmm!

6. Moore was right. When Obama won, WE won...
and the Nobel prize is the most prestigious prize in the world. I don't know why the 'pubs are so worked up. They don't give a damn about peace in any way, shape or form.

7. Think about it. They are worked up about it because it
gives him tremendous power in foreign affairs. He is now clearly the leader. Recognized as alpha male on the planet.

Look at Grantcart's thread about the new cooperation with Russia. I think Obama understands something that we don't. That you can't fix these individual fights between nations without engaging on a world wide cooperation. Everything affects everything else.

14. And, that President Obama concurs..
Cha --

This morning, Michelle and I awoke to some surprising and humbling news. At 6 a.m., we received word that I'd been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.

To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize -- men and women who've inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.

But I also know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it's also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.

That is why I've said that I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations and all peoples to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges won't all be met during my presidency, or even my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it's recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone.

This award -- and the call to action that comes with it -- does not belong simply to me or my administration; it belongs to all people around the world who have fought for justice and for peace. And most of all, it belongs to you, the men and women of America, who have dared to hope and have worked so hard to make our world a little better.

So today we humbly recommit to the important work that we've begun together. I'm grateful that you've stood with me thus far, and I'm honored to continue our vital work in the years to come.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama

Expect the "hasn't done anything" lie, and slam back with disarmament talks, opening travel to cuba, talks with Russia and Iran, restoring rights to captured soldiers, (etc. etc.)

received the award too. I believe in addition to enabling him to reach some of his more lofty goals it considers the impact he's had on the world since he began campaigning for the Presidency.

25. For him to get the Peace prize means the world believes he is and will stand for peace.
It's about time. The world thought America went crazy under Bush and couldn't be trusted as peace seekers...only war mongers. 9mos in office, stopped a cold war, expressed the diplomatic mission of peace to the ME rather than just threats, makes an effort to stop nuclear proliferation...the man clearly deserves the peace prize but he still has a long way to go in his term and the world hopes his mission is peace...so do I.

27. i must say that I'm happy to take back my
initial reaction and statements to this. Influenced by the likes of Michael Moore and Rachael Maddow, but also just realising that when you think about it, I mean really think about it, yes, he's made a profound difference.

I think people (myself included), sometimes make snap judgments, and upon reflection Id have to say I'm happy to be wrong.

The prize was infact a big boost to his standing in the world, and probably served to highlight the fact that he's done more than people think he has.

So congrats Mr Obama on your prize, yes you've still got a lot to do, but the world will be more than happy if you are able to deliver on the change that you promised.

Peace

AD

29. For all the naysayers ...
please give me your justification as to why Bishop Desmond Tutu deserved the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 when he was fighting Apartheid and Apartheid wouldn't even be gone for another 10 years.

Sometimes the Nobel Committee puts its weight behind issues and i see Obama's Nobel Prize the same way. If we were to make progress on (1) Nuclear disarmament (2) Addressing Climate Change, we will see the Nobel prize sitting as comfortably on the shoulders of Obama as we see Rev. Tutu as a natural Nobel awardee.

PS: Whatever some folks do, they are out of place in the Nobel line up. I am looking squarely into your eyes, Mr. Kissinger.

Edited on Mon Oct-12-09 08:37 AM by GivePeaceAchance
control last week. No spin in the world can make this look a bad thing for President Obama. It blows apart many of the conspiracies they made against him too. Hitler, nope, authoritarian communist nope, facist nope not really, Kenyan the award was given to An American President so clearly feel nope to that theory. This award blew up their whole argument in one day and it was beautiful to see.
