Zogby asks if FCC should force "good white people" to "make room for more African-Americans and gays
Zogby asks if FCC should force "good white people" to "make room for more African-Americans and gays."
October 27, 2009 3:52 pm ET by Jamison Foser

FAIR's Peter Hart takes note of an extraordinary poll question asked by Zogby:

Here's one of the "questions" asked in the poll, tailor-made for Fox News Channel:

Federal Communications Commission Chief Diversity Czar Mark Lloyd wants the FCC to force good white people in positions of power in the broadcast industry to step down to make room for more African-Americans and gays to fill those positions. Do you agree or disagree that this presents a threat to free speech?

6. Holy fuck.
Seriously? Jesus.

(And as an aside, some "good white people" are gay; those categories aren't mutually exclusive. Neither are "African American" and "gay" for that matter.)

Didn't Zogby refuse to do a poll on impeachment when Bush was in office? One of the major pollsters did and I think it was Zogby.

12. WTF! "Good White People" vs African Americans and Gays?
How blatant can they get in their bigotry, goading people's bigotry to get the responses they want that support an agenda.

This should kill a company's professional reputation. This become such a part of their corporate reputation that it ruins their credibility as a polling organization. Nothing they ever do ever again should be assumed to be professional, fair or accurate after something like this.

:grr:

Zogby: Bigots, providing the answers you want to support your biases.

15. zogby will apparently take anyone's money and conduct anyone's poll
Edited on Wed Oct-28-09 05:59 PM by onenote
O'Leary, who is a rw nut job, apparently has adopted the practice of purchasing Zogby's services as a pollster, writing ridiculous, misleading poll questions, having Zogby conduct the poll and then he reports on the results of his twisted poll.

Its ridiculous and it makes Zogby out to be little more than a prostitute when it comes to polling.

I should that O'Leary has been using zogby to run these bogus polls for awhile and they generally are ignored other than in o'leary's own website. From that perspective, I wonder whether we'd have been better off if Hart hadn't flagged this and gotten it more attention than it would otherwise get. However, if the reaction is outrage -- great.

And he seems desperate for money if he lets anyone write ridiculous questions like this.

20. The poll is twisting the man's words
From the Media Matters posting, here's what Mr. Lloyd said at a conference in 2005:
This... there's nothing more difficult than this. Because we have really, truly good white people in important positions. And the fact of the matter is that there are a limited number of those positions. And unless we are conscious of the need to have more people of color, gays, other people in those positions we will not change the problem. We're in a position where you have to say who is going to step down so someone else can have power.

It is somewhat controversial, but given where we are at right now in national media (marc hill being fired from FOX News, Limbaugh getting 400 million while Clear Channel lays off hundreds, Pat Buchanan saying racist stuff, teabaggers getting press while gay rights protests getting ignored even though their numbers are the same) I'm beginning to think that the lack of minorities and women in news media is having a downward effect on media presentation.

Long story short, I think Zogby just proved Mr. Lloyds point; some of those 'good white people' have not been so 'good' and have got to go.

Utter bs

By the way, should this criteria be applied in other professions & jobs as stated?
Like the NFL, NBA, BET network, Jesse Jackson's organizations, etc.

29. Oh. My. God.
I don't care if this is a poll paid for by a third party. No respectable polling organization should accept a commission like that -- I can't believe some of the staff didn't walk off the job. I guess I can believe, considering the job market, but Jesus H. Christ, can you ever look at a Zogby Poll again without thinking of that question?

are in the military, go to church, or are a minor( I love this one because they really need to know how many people having positive responses are kids who don't know any better and can't vote anyway!)

32. The FCC guy Lloyd is the original source for "good white people"
Edited on Thu Oct-29-09 09:10 AM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
so the Zogby outrage will double boomerang back at the outraged who will then be not as outraged when they discover this and will start discussing how an African American using the phrase "good white people" is not racist but Zogby including it is and the then the discussions will be circular and endless, resolve nothing and everyone will be outraged about everything and demanding apologies and retractions from each other after accusing each other of being racists and/or reverse racists.

Apparently, the right zeroed in on this quote a while ago and has been touting it before now. It is being taken out of context and the poll question is not reflective of what Lloyd actually was saying (before he was ever at the FCC) although he indisputedly used the phrase "good white people". Focusing on that is exactly where the right wants to take you in this discussion. I have to admire how cunning this all is.
