An evil thought my friends don't think it is funny at all:
what if Bush loses the electoral vote and wins the popular vote?

BTW,I am all for eradicating the electoral vote.

1. Well...
There'd be a certain poetic justice to it, since he won the electoral but lost the popular last time.

But we really need a decisive victory for Kerry so the Repugs can't claim that he has no mandate to lead.

3. If these new voter registration reports are true..
in that Democrats are out-registering Republicans, I don't think we'll have to ponder such a scenario very much. Kerry will have his mandate - the biggest mandate since 1984. Perhaps even bigger.. who knows? It's all up to us getting our folks to the polls.

5. The odds are
against it. Even though the race seems close right now--it is very rare for it to be as close as it was in 2000, usually one candidate wins much more decisively. I think after the debates the race will go in our favor by a nice margin. Then after the debates, in the last two weeks, the undecideds will begin to break our way (following historical patterns). We should win by a substantial margin. Bush is not going to win either the popular vote or the electoral college this time.

6. Well I guess he would be President. Right?
What if the same thing happened as last time? Would George bring home the NG to keep the peace and put him in office? Would the people put up with it?

8. I have to side with your friends.
Think back to 2000 when the Florida legislature said it would give the ev's to Bush no matter what and the U.S. Congress said it would step in if necessary to give the election to Bush. If your scenario comes to pass watch out! They'll overturn the election in broad daylight and there will be no consequences.

9. I really don't think they'd dig in for this guy (W)
I think they'd let the election go and hope that the mess they've left for Kerry makes it easier for Jeb's run.

The neo-cons have always been willing to slink back into their holes and wait for a new chance. Bush's ineptness may actually force them back into hiding after a close loss.
