Debunking NRA Lies: My Editorial
On Wednesday September 22nd the NRA ran an ad in the McDonald County Newspapers stating that John Kerry (a sportsman and avid hunter himself) opposes sportsman’s rights. They stated that, “It is no wonder John Kerry has been called a ‘hero’ by the Humane Society of the United States, an extremist group that wants to outlaw hunting in America.” On their web-site the Humane Society of the US state the following regarding bear hunting: “Any responsible hunter, no matter the method of hunting he chooses, should hold fire until he has a clean shot at a bear and can kill the bear.” Clearly the organization does not advocate a ban on hunting.

The NRA ad continues that Kerry voted for an amendment “to outlaw most ammunition used by deer hunters.” However, the amendment (SA 2619) only would have banned such ammunition (for centerfire rifles) if it had been “designed or marketed as having armor piercing capability.” Now, does anyone know a deer who wears a bullet proof vest?

It is possible to be concerned about sportsman’s rights and the truth concurrently. Unfortunately, a deceptive cartoon is more marketable than the burden inherent to a responsible citizenry.

1. The NRA is, and has been, full of excreta for a long time...

I am a hunter and avid target shooter, and have been since about age 4. There is not enough money in this world to entice me to associate with the NRA ever again. I cancelled my membership in 1980 because I did not like the direction that they were taking, and I am not the least bit surprised at what they are doing now.

3. Same here I refuse to ever go back to them untill
they become an organization which champions gun ownership and safety and overall is educational when it comes to guns, not a source that tries to educate the community on politics by lying to them about the Democrats.

7. Couldn't agree more....it is a real shame when one considers the
really worthwhile and educational programs that the NRA supported back in the 50s and 60s. Those were great programs that trained young people to shoot, earn medals for their targets, and learn the rules of gun safety.

2. armor piercing...
Edited on Sun Sep-26-04 01:34 PM by WillW
Any idiot using armor piercing bullets on deer needs to have their head examined. You want a bullet that expands and kills cleanly for hunting, not one that zips through leaving a clean hole and a maimed animal.

Furthermore, and I can't speak for anything except my eastern european surplus guns, the armor piercing rounds for my 7.62x54 (I think they have carbide cores) tear your rifling apart...at least that's what a couple of old timers told me.

I don't give a shit if they ban armor piercing bullets. It means nothing to me as a shooter (except maybe the super cheap import surplus will dry up). So what?

4. The Humane Society is an extremist organization?

BITE. ME.

God, I hate these people (the NRA leadership.) It would be so delightful to put them inside a high fence and hunt them with armor piecing bullets.

5. I am sure that SCI will find a way to legalize the hunting of...
democrats/progressives at their earliest opportunity, inside a high fence, and probably baited!

8. Thanks guys and by the way
During the Carnahan/Talent Senate race in 2002 there was a ad in that paper that said Jean Carnahan would take your guns and dogs away. Dogs? Sad part is these people in hickville US likely believed it.
