5. It was 8 years after he said he quit drinking. Sadly, a number of voters
would view this tape as further proof that dubya's exactlythe kind of guy they want making decisions that effect their kids' educational, economic, and physical well being.

Somebody smarter than me has probably already said that the best and the worst thing about democracy is that the public always gets the leaders it deserves.

7. I have to agree with that, repelled though I was. What struck me

was that this was actually the first time I saw the "want to have a beer with this guy" thing. I mean, *I* would not want to--he sounded like exactly the kind of smarmy mean fratboy I loathe--but you could see how it could and did play well with that sort of person. He's being the "life of the party," which is not something one tends to see in his stiff, canned-but-still-barely-coherent public appearances these days.

Ironically, I think he *was*, not drunk, but "tight" as they say (that is, a moderate buzz, at least at that stage of the party). But honestly that's the sharpest and most coherent i've seen of him in a while. Certainly none of his recent media performances have him coming off like that--he's *aged* tremendously. That video's twelve years old; Dubya now looks a good twenty-five years older than that, I'd say.

You know what I think? I think Bush actually was *more* coherent and "charming" (in his own gaseous way) while drunk. I think that's likely why he took to it in the first place. Up till now I was sure he was hitting the booze again; but now I don't know. I think maybe, the "dry drunk" has stumbled on with his abstinence, teeth clenched, and it's taken its toll on him. Of course, just because he can't drink doesn't mean he hasn't been taking a little something-something to help him "relax," oh, all strictly legal, of course; at least, at first, in the original prescribed doses. He may not be drinking, but I'll bet folding money he goes running for the shelter of his Dubya's little helpers quite a bit these days.

3. Obviously it was during his father's campaign, I guess Kitty
was pretty much on the mark concerning his indiscretions, I love the way such photo ops get little if any air play yet we are to be concerned about a future president that windsurfs? Please, where are some American's priorities truly at..

6. Having lived with drunks ninety percent of my entire life, I can
vouch for it's authenticity.., the movements he presents are more than obvious, the slurring and the last shot of him dowing the rest of the one in his hand, thirsty after having had to talk so much...

10. If he's not drunk, he's having one hell of a dry drunk
I, too, have extensive familial experience with alcoholics, plus I've worked in neuropsychiatry. I know what untreated alcoholics (which Bush is) are like, and I know they can display drinking behavior from time to time, even when they've been drinking nothing stronger than iced tea.

I also know the prognosis for untreated alcoholics is not good, no matter how much they love Jesus.

Bush's speech was steadily worsening for much of his presidency, as were his unsteadiness of gait and his confabulation when he got off script. He's shown some signs of improved coordination very recently, so I'm guessing he's on a very short leash for the election season. The cognitive problems he has are permanent, though.

This is not someone who should have his finger on the nuclear trigger. We really need to get him out of office, for his sake and for ours.

8. I hafta disagree...
.... while we can quibble over just exactly what the term "drunk" actually means, it is clear that he has drank enough for the alcohol to affect his speech and demeanor.

For an "experienced" drinker, this takes more than a couple drinks.

11. Believe me I understand what you are saying, someone on here
said that he appeared lucid ;-) I cannot tell you how many times that such happened to those near me when fully and unabashedly slapass drunk, for those on the receiving end of such party goers after hours, the aftermath is not so jovial...

I knew it way before I saw anything like this video, the first time being tonight, it is the reason I have never had faith in this man's judegement, his whole appearance screams of his denials...

And for the average American, it is not so dangerous, but for the leader and commander of this great nation, it is extremely dangerous to allow him another four years...

12. that was before he was packaged by Karl Rove.
You don't even hear many folks talk like him in Texas unless ones goes into the boonies. He left Midland in 7th grade and spent the next 12 years mostly in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Maine. None of his siblings or his parents have that twang. His accent is as phony as his rodeo buckle and hat. As Ann Richards once set, "Shrub is all hat and no cattle!"

13. Every time I watch that, I laugh and laugh and laugh
I'm sorry, but this whole stupid theatre of the absurd that we call a Democracy is hilarious sometimes. That video is one of the hilarious pieces of information we have about our President.

Only in America, could a man that drunk and stupid become President!
