My "TWO FACED" LTTE - am I on the right track here?
Edited on Mon Sep-27-04 10:21 AM by Cheesehead
This presidential election is much less a popularity contest than a referendum on the Bush administration's performance over the past four years. Voting Americans need to ask the questions "Are you better off now than you were four years ago?" and "Are you happy with the direction America is currently headed?". Most people I talk to answer with an emphatic NO!

Those of you who object to "Bush bashing" are missing the point of this exercise in patriotism. Although Mr. Bush won't admit it, there is no denying that mistakes have been made in running the country that demand to be included in the public debate and considered when making intelligent election choices for the next four years. We have the opportunity to make America stronger and better in the process.

Mr. Bush has been consistently two faced in promising one thing and delivering another on domestic issues. Beware of his deceptive sales pitches. The Medicare drug benefit that actually benefits the pharmaceutical industry over senior citizens is one example. The Clear Skies initiative that reduces regulation of polluters is another. The No Child Left Behind agenda that disenfranchises millions of children is a third example of the disingenuous duplicity that characterizes Bush programs. What was billed as a push for smaller government and fiscal responsibility has decimated the treasury and saddled America with huge deficits well into the future.

International affairs thinking has been similarly bipolar. Decisions relating to security against terrorist threats have wrongly favored hegemony in the Middle East over homeland security, leaving us at risk here at home. Allies are welcome only when willing to be subservient. Advice is unwelcome.

It is vital that we carefully examine the administration's two faced performance and remember that in voting for Bush you are reselecting not only the "likable" front man, but the entire Keystone Cops administration that has served us so poorly.

1. Good letter.

I'd distill it thusly:

To the editor:

George W. Bush is the most two faced candidate to ever
run for president.

When Bush says he's for a Clear Skies Initiative, what he
means is he wants polluters to police themselves. When he
says the Medicare drug program is for seniors, what he means
is that it's really for the drug companes. When he says that
he doesn't want to leave any child behind, what he means is
he wants to say good things about education but he doesn't want
to pay for them. And that's just on domestic issues.

When Bush says Iraq is going well, he's channeling Groucho
Marx. "Who are you going to believe, me or your lying
eyes?"

This is not 2000. You know Bush now. Are you really fooled
by the public face? Are you really?

2. Thanks, your style is a lot more readable than mine
but also a lot less subtle. This is a conservative place and I just want to nudge the Repukes a bit.

3. Then you need to talk about conservative issues.

Deficit reduction, smaller government. You need to
emphasize all of the ways that Bush is not conservative.
Tweak them in the soft places, where it hurts them the
most.

6. argue that the tax cuts
you put in one pocket have been taken out of the other pocket by higher energy prices, gas prices, medical prermiums allof which have risen dramatically due to collusion, market manipulation, deregulation. Also hit the massive deficits as a "birth tax" that every future American will be saddled with. Plus the federal government has dramatically grown under Bush, after shrinking under Clinton. Those may have some effect on the fiscal conservatives, the social conservatives are a lost cause.
