Freep paper: Kerry a Lied
Mr. Kerry has claimed that he faced his "first intense combat" that day, returned fire, and received his "first combat related injury."

A journal entry Mr. Kerry wrote Dec. 11, however, raises questions about what really happened nine days earlier.

"A cocky feeling of invincibility accompanied us up the Long Tau shipping channel because we hadn't been shot at yet, and Americans at war who haven't been shot at are allowed to be cocky," wrote Mr. Kerry, according the book "Tour of Duty" by friendly biographer Douglas Brinkley.

If enemy fire was not involved in that or any other incident, according to the Military Order of the Purple Heart, no medal should be awarded.

"The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the armed forces of the U.S. who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy," according to the organization chartered by Congress. According to regulations set by the Department of Defense, an enemy must be involved to warrant a Purple Heart.

1. What makes me so angry about the VIETNAM THING
Is that the media portrays Kerry as the one focusing on Vietnam when it is actually the media who keeps scrutinizing every damn second of a war that happened 30 years ago!

You want to respond? Talk about the IRAQ war and our president who said "I don't care where Osama Bin Laden is".

5. No shit! Did they give it this much attention DURING the effin Viet Nam
war? At this rate we can expect a highly critical expose of the War on Iraq in 2035!!

3. No less than the U.S Navy has said the medals are legit
What more do they want? This sounds like desperation to me. Bottom line- Kerry was there in Viet Nam, bush was not. Therefore, bush cannot state that he is a combat vet, as he tried to convey during his "Mission Accomplished" stunt.

4. *sigh*
This is bullshit partisanship that has little bearing on who is the better candidate. Bush was AWOL. Possibly a deserter. They tell us to get over it. Right back atcha, freepies.

Second, the requirement stated for getting a purple heart is faulty. Google it and figure it out. An enemy does not have to be involved in the sense that they are implying. To merit a purple heart, only the 'instrument' is a requirement, which can be a grenade YOU have thrown in an attempt to impede your enemy (which can be blowing up a foot path, food or weapons cache, etc) that accidentally causes YOU to receive an injury.

7. Was he under fire or not and did he lie? Are both accounts true?

8. The date of this article is August 24
The Navy investigated Kerry's medals (at the urging of Swift Boaters) and found no problems with the documentation or the way they were awarded.

Why are you bringing this up now? It's been thoroughly disproven.

9. If you're so concerned about it.. if you're so hot to quote Wash Times..
..then perhaps you should remove your Kerry/Edwards avatar, and the link to his page... because you're a sad excuse for a supporter. You think you would have learned something in the past few months about the Washington Times... and about Kerry's record.
