The Ohio voter registration story (links below) is a small matter—the type of petty partisan sleaze that goes on every day in every State. In the old days a decision about paperwork made by the Ohio Secretary of State would generate two or three letters to the editor in local papers. Instead, thanks to The Daily Kos and some people on DU there are a lot of people in Ohio, government and media types alike, scratching their heads wondering why this little story is generating more mail than the day’s big stories.
It’s not that they can’t figure out where all the mail comes from. They know it’s an organized partisan effort and probably involves the internet somehow. But no matter what, all those recipients are now AWARE of the story. We can’t generally force people to do things, but we can tilt the playing field upon which things happen. That awareness predisposes them to think of subsequent developments differently. (“People are talking about…”)
Because of spam email has become a very weak mode of communication. The usual targets of email (CNN, FOX, the White House, national campaigns, Walmart, etc.) get a lot of email and they are good at ignoring it, blocking it and deleting it. But little targets are not yet used to such attention. So I hope people will break-out local issues that involve the Presidential campaign and present them to DU for national attention.
Think locally - Act globally. Ask yourself, where will a hundred emails make a difference?
