Bush to screen population for mental illness [this is very scary]
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=39078

President Bush plans to unveil next month a sweeping mental health initiative that recommends screening for every citizen and promotes the use of expensive antidepressants and antipsychotic drugs favored by supporters of the administration.

The New Freedom Initiative, according to a progress report, seeks to integrate mentally ill patients fully into the community by providing "services in the community, rather than institutions," the British Medical Journal reported.

These comments are some that have me wondering if someone should dig into this information and see what is true from it

Actually, there is a "pilot" of this program already in place in Illinois. Here is a list of more information on how that is going from the Illinois Leader http://www.illinoisleader.com/search/default.asp?query=compulsory+mental&x=0&y=0

This was another of Bushco's executive orders -- New Freedom Commission on Mental Health (falls under the New Freedom Initiative umbrella).

And here is the Official Commission site http://www.mentalhealthcommission.gov/

Personally, I think if the government wants to start screening Americans for mental health disorders (especially without providing for circumstance of the person being screened) then they should start in Washington. I know of several people in the Bush administration that I'd consider suspect.

Prescott Bush joined with Dr. Gambel to do somehting like this. It involved sterilizing those who did not score high enough on ability tests. They were kicked out of Connecticut and found a home in North Carolina where this went on for awhile.
Another outcome of this relationship little known by people is , planned parenthood.

as the Russians see it:
Is this true?

3. Damn
beat me to it.

I'll put my mental health up against his any day.

I really am sane. God does not talk to me. I do not believe I have been chosen by God to do anything.

Bush is nuts. Really. He is nuts.

4. That's what I want to know. Who the hell does he think he is. We hire and
fire, all be it not a perfect option what with thieves and all. But better late than never. I think we should have had him get checked in 1999.

2. Bush World = Brave New World combined with 1984....
Geez, can it be made any more obvious? Feeding more money to the pharmaceutical industry while keeping the population sedated like the crazies in "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest." Bush has create the age of anxiety and now offers us the panacea. And remember how the USSR used the mental wards to control the dissidents? Here we go again!

6. Fuck him and the
unstable horse he rode in on!

Do you know how many people have incurred terrible side effects from anti=depressants? Much worse than being depressed!

I'll tell what it takes for most to get out of depression. Get on a good healthy diet and EXERCISE! Get those endorphins UP!

7. Well, its half true
There is a move afoot to get all but the most severely mentally ill out of institutions. Nothing very sinister about it - its simply allowing choice for people and providing simple dignity and respect.

Its a matter of Civil Rights - under Olmstead, 1999.

"In June 1999, the Supreme Court ruled in L.C. & E.W. vs. Olmstead that it is a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act for states to discriminate against people with disabilities by providing services in institutions when the individual could be served more appropriately in a community-based setting. States are required to provide community-based services for people with disabilities if treatment professionals determine that it is appropriate, the affected individuals do not object to such placement, and the state has the available resources to provide community-based services. The Court suggests that a state could establish compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act if it has 1) a comprehensive, effective working plan for placing qualified people in less restrictive settings, and 2) a waiting list for community-based services that ensures people can receive services and be moved off the list at a reasonable pace."

8. Wasn't that long ago that the British found measurable amounts
of Prozac in their drinking water was it? Perhaps they have been doing that here in all the red states as well. Hey, I put nothing past these people these days, do you?

Maybe I am stretching the point, but didn't Bush want to drain the Great Lakes for some reason or other, then chose not to? Maybe he is going to use it as his "test" water. Could explain the changing poll figures near the lakes, right?

/hopefully turning off the some what satirical paranoia now
