My bitch (#2435) - using celebrities
Why the HELL aren't celebrities being used more? Sure,Martin Sheen will show up at a CA event, but why isn't the Kerry campaign using some of the bahgillion celebrities that support him in appearances elsewhere?

Imagine if Bette Midler came with him to one battleground state and sang one freakin' song?

Imagine if Ben Affleck or some other hunk came with him for an appearance in OH, or PA, or MI?

There's a lot of beloved Hollywood libs who need to do more than voice support and I ain't talkin' 'bout the controversial ones (Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Sean Penn, etc.) Get out of CA and hit the ground in the battleground states where they would draw attention and media and crowds.

1. Ben Affleck came to the rally I saw in PA!
And he was adorable. But that was right after the Demo. convention.

5. I know what you mean
but it isn't the same. Having Kerry be introduced by a celeb, especially one who sings, is different than an independent tour by a band to drum up support.

I mean, Max Cleland is great, but imagine if Meg Ryan or Glenn Close were the introducer? Yeah, some people would come to see them, rather than Kerry and yeah, maybe they would overshadow Kerry in initial coverage. But, Jeebus, it would generate a LOT of media for smaller, local venues and get the attention of local press. And once you've got the bodies there, it's a lot easier to register and motivate 'em, rather than the "preachin' to the choir" thing.

9. that would be ACT (America Coming Together...sounds naughty)
Pearl Jam is playing, hopefully to atone for their mistake, which I might add I shared, of supporting Ralph Nader in 2000. They play several shows with Death Cab for Cutie (how I wish TX was a battleground state) this weekend and next week in

Other artists touring include: Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Mathhews Band, the Dixie Chicks, Jacson Browne, James Taylor, John ogerty, John Mellencamp, Jurassic 5, Keb' Mo', and R.E.M.

3. My guess is because the GOP is fond of targeting them
Sure, they're famous, but you remember all that crap from the bushies about all those 'Hollywood liberals' not supporting the troops and all that. Even though it's a bunch of BS, we all know how good the repukes (with the willing assistance of the media) are at keeping a bunch of BS on the front page. My guess is they're going to keep it all Kerry/Edwards and avoid involving themselves with people who could be seen as controversial.

7. Oh, pshaw. . .
Are you telling me that if Brad Pitt was traveling to Ohio to introduce Kerry that there aren't some non-political types that would come because of him?

I personally think that the "undecideds" are comprised of about 4 people who are simply waiting for the call to be on a focus group.

I want the people who don't pay shit-attention but will come out for something that tickles their fancy. We get their attention with celebs, who motivate 'em to get registered and vote, and we get their addresses/phone numbers, and we get 'em to the polls.

It aint' the undecideds, it's the un-motivated-never-voted ones that can tip it in our favor. And celebs can help.
