Bush: "Debate room must be over 70 degrees"
Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 12:18 PM by Jack_Dawson
And he got his wish. Kerry will be sweating and as Jon Stewart puts it..."women don't like sweaters."

Kerry won the battle: 3 debates.

But Bush won the war: No direct questioning, Fox running the show, temperature above 70 degrees. Why the fuck do the Dems fall for this shyte? 70 degree studios are very warm. Add to that the warm bodies in the audience and the hot lights. I dunno...

2. They were so happy to get the 3rd debate - gave in on "little" things.
That's what I read somewhere.

17. They didn't really get anything.. bush* has said he may not attend
the next two debates. It depends on how well the first one goes. They are reserving the option to not have more than one debate.

11. Yes but the Fox cameras will zoom in on
Kerry as he sweats and not show any close shots of Bush. I am surprised they don't demand that Kerry wear a mohair turtleneck sweater and a scarf!

debate if the temp in the room is 69? This sounds fishy to me.

12. The language does not specify and exact temp.
Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 12:21 PM by cally
as far as I know. Are you sure of this?

Edited to add info and a link:

There’s even a codicil that might be called “the perspiration clause,” since it alludes to every candidate’s worst fear: an outbreak of Nixon-style flop sweat.

The clause commits the nonpartisan producer, the Commission on Presidential Debates, to use its “best efforts to maintain an appropriate temperature according to industry standards for the entire debate,” although it’s unclear what “industry standard” temperature is, or even what industry the agreement is referring to.

I mean the document is 32 pages...don't you think room temperature would come up somewhere? Especially in light of Nixon's performance.

http://www.pbs.org/now/politics/2004MemorandumUnderstanding.pdf

Section 9 ix
The Commission shall use best efforts to maintain an appropriate temperature according to industry standards for the entire debate.

I think the 70 degree comment is simply posturing, to get people to watch for Kerry sweating.

21. Bush probably has an air conditioned suit or something.
It would truly not surprise me one bit. I know the suits mascots wear at baseball games are air-conditioned. I'd bet anything Shrub has been given something to keep him from sweating.

They want a reprise of the 1960 Kennedy/Nixon debate.

22. It's not the heat that gets you...
its the humidity. As a man who sweats alot I can tell you, the heat is rough but when the humidity is over 45% and the temperature is over 75 it's killer.

I'm not too sure why he needs it above 70 unless he has a circulation problem which would cause his skin to change color if the temperature was too low and look pale but with enough make-up that would not be a problem unless one were to look at his hands, which would turn white/blue and give a creepy effect.

Who knows, maybe he's like one of those lizards in that TV show years back called "V" and needs a high tempture..I just hope his mask doesn't fall of, that would be real embarrassing :D

I sweat like a mofo, but only when there's a twinge of humidity. If it's 120 degrees out w/ no humidity, I don't sweat.

24. actually the agreement doesn't specify a temperature
All it says is that the Commission (putting on the debates) "shall use its best efforts to maintain an appropriate temperature according to industry standards for the entire debate." Of course,I have no idea where the "industry standards" that are referred to come from...

Here's a link to the 32 page agreement. The provision quoted is on page 18.

33. Dems could just as well claim victory over the podium height...
It's agreed that the podiums (podia?) are to be 50" on the crowd side, and 48" on the candidate side. And risers are not allowed.

Now, Dubya's only about 5'4", isn't he? He'll barely be able to see over the podium.
