1. Fuck! At least we have this...
"Finally, this week, Sony’s protests started having an effect. “We’re now getting movement,” a Sony suit told L.A. Weekly Monday night. Sony corporate senior vice president Susan Tick claimed Tuesday that the initial ban on the morning news shows was lifted, and time on an NBC Dateline had been made available. But she also confirmed that the early-evening news shows are still verboten, and ABC still remains adamant that the DVD can’t be advertised on its PrimeTime Live. Meanwhile, the DVD ads’ status on the other network news shows is murky at best. (Sony execs emphasize that Fox was not part of this cabal — apparently because no Fahrenheit 9/11 DVD ads were planned there."

14. They will allow Bush attack ads on their networks though?

IF they accept ANY form of negative campaign advertising, they cannot refuse Moore's DvD.

Does anyone know if any of the networks accept political ads of any sort?

2. optimist in me
then this is a good thing, b/c F9/11 is still going to sell.

so MM doesn't have to pay the networks for the ads. They don't make the $$, and he gets to keep it. Funds for the next film.

10. we, my dear friend zidzi
are the people.

and we OWN the country.
You can't stop the voices of the ones who have seen this movie and want others to see it.

those that don't agree have FAUXMSNBCABCCNN to speak for them.

but if you are watching the video/dvd, you aren't watching the cable, no?

get your copy, and have a house party!

thanks for the stock tip on SONY. :D

3. Good.
They can get the same publicity out of this that they got from Disney pulling the plug on the original distribution. They just have to raise a big, LOUD fuss about it. Controversy = news coverage. The network news shows that are refusing to show the ads might not cover it, but damn near everyone else will.

6. We need to e-mail friendly media about this
the story has it right: they have spilled so much ink and wrung their hands nightly about "Rathergate," but we haven't heard a peep about them REFUSING TO ALLOW A FILM TO BE ADVERTISED. At least AAR should care about this....hell, why isn't the film being advertised on AAR anyhow?

7. They can run campaign commercials, but not on ad for
a dvd with a message relevant to the race?

If they want to be apolitical in their advertising, why don't they tell the Kerry and Bush campaigns they won't run campaign ads?

8. oy!
"L.A. Weekly has learned that CBS, NBC and ABC all refused Fahrenheit 9/11 DVD advertising during any of the networks news programming.

Executives at Sony Pictures, the distributor of the movie for the home-entertainment market, were stunned. And even more shocked when the three networks explained why..."

18. the ban
isn't across the board. the networks aren't saying they won't air any f/911 ads, just not during news shows. Also, restrictions on normal rated r movies apply, so that cuts out any ads before 7 i think. so, you'll see a lot of the ads during prime time dramas and reality shows. i saw 3 last night alone.
