20. Guppy with an attitude!
The video portion of this broadcast is doing Unca Dick absolutely no favors.

2. I don't know about that.
Cheney is far more competent and articulate than Dubya. I think Edwards is a little more talking-pointish than I expected.

Each side is getting a few hits in. I call it a wash right now.

6. Agreed. Pukes will spin this as a win.
So will the media--mark my words. However, there are two other presidential debates. This is the last VP debate, thank God.

4. huh? This is pretty even so far
And Cheney just gave JE a bit of a spanking on attendance.

JE will have to do better to beat Cheney this debate. I really wish they had scheduled this debate after the 2nd prez debate.

5. Please be objective
Cheney is more than holding his own.

And at the same time, Edwards is proving to be unprepared to respond to Cheney's statements.

I would have Cheney crying by now.

10. More than?
Edited on Tue Oct-05-04 08:51 PM by Hardhead
Cheney is ruffled. He's breathing heavy. I'm listening rather than watching. Cheney is not calm. He's agitated and getting pissed. He's ready to slap Edwards.

He has NOTHING. He's out there in front of the world with his DICK IN HIS HANDS.

12. You should watch it
Cheney is more than holding his own and has Edwards on the defensive.

I personally don't think Edwards is coming across as proficient.

His inexperience shows.

16. Are watching the debate in Bizarro World?
Gee whiz, Cheney is IGNORING massive attacks, leaving them lay and fixating on trifles.

22. I have no idea of what criteria you are using but they are not forensic.
Edwards has carried virtually every issue and so stunned Cheney with the precision of his Halliburton thrust that Cheney spent 2 or 3 speaking opportunities to refute it, all the while ignoring the questions. If you took very careful notes, you would see that Cheney was attacked and left bleeding and never managed to launch an effective defense.

24. Glad I'm not the only one who saw it that way!
But Cheney shrewdly calmed it all down, slowing his cadences, deliberately boring the audience with pointless anecdotes. He's like the worn out older fighter who keeps "hugging" his opponent because he's too tired to swing anymore. Edwards let himself get trapped in wonk sessions, but he kept swinging nonetheless. Cheney minimized the fallout by declining to answer specific charges. He took a lot of shit and kept standing. But there was no mistaking his lies. Voted against after-school programs! Voted against freeing Nelson Mandela! Voted against the MLK holiday! He looked very bad.

11. There must be something to the difference that people see........
when they watch as opposed to when they listen to a debate, because to me (listening), Cheyney is firmly in control and quite convincing.

21. Extremely surprised by this
Expected Edwards to have trouble with Cheney, but he's owned him ever since he continued the Halliburton discussion with his retort of "Here are some facts for you."

I hear talking points and more GOP repetition from Cheney. I hear conviction from Edwards. This is a slaughter.

Sure he lied dozens of times, but people believe lies. That said, Edwards is more than holding his own.
