I thought the questions she asked were very tough for both people, of course most of the time neither of them really answered them directly, but I was just kinda surprised by how to the point a lot of them were. I know technically she didn't do a great job handling things, but I enjoyed the questions.

7. NO questions on the environment. NO questions on health insurance. NO
questions on prescription drugs.

When those issues were brought up (no environment at all), John Edwards brought them up on as an add-on to other questions.

In addition to leaving out a good chunk of domestic policy questions, Ifill then went to fifth grade questions like "How are you different from your opponent, without saying your running mate's name" or whatever the frig the question was.

Spent more time on the lawsuits than necessary, also.

8. Sins of omission. The questions she DID ask were pretty good, including..
the 5th grade one: That was a very open ended question, which gives the
debaters room to talk about whatever they want. Standard in any kind
of debate.

3. She did one thing exactly right - When Dick said he couldn't
answer in 30 seconds, she said "That's all you've got." Sure tickled me.

6. She did okay - I did like the questions, but I think she threw John
Edwards off when he knew it wasn't his turn to speak, she said it was -- he started talking (sort of) and she cut him off. Not a good way to go. But, I do agree that she asked some tough questions especially starting in right away with the Paul Bremer report. Don't take the freeper accusation too seriously - both sides are getting a lot of infiltration this time of year.

:hi:

9. absolutely. All her questions were barbed RW talking points...
to Edwards: "they say you're inexperienced"
to Edwards: "what about all this flipflopping?"
to Edwards: "Do you feel attacked when called a Trial lawyer?"
to Edwards: "Does your party's views on foreign policy mean you would have left Saddam in Power?"

Those are all classic republican talking points, phrased as questions and directed at Edwards.

But to Cheney:

"the news today on the report YOU COMMISSIONED...." (gives him a plausible out on what should have been a body blow)

and other examples too numerous to mention, including allowing Cheney to have more time for extension than Edwards on several occasions...

A moderator should not be a shill. period.
