Anyone see Gov's state of state address this evening?
What did you think? Any thoughts?

I was watching it on Fox 11 (here in SoCal) w/John Beard. The former state controller was also present for comments after the address. I found her incredibly annoying (pls forgive me, I can't recall her name).

She seemed to be a major Gov. A groupie and even called his address brilliant. She seemed to be of the thought that he was making 'presendential' comments in preparation for that possibility come 2008. (yawn).

Anyway, anyone that saw it--I'd love to hear your thoughts!

:)

1. He makes me want to throw up... so I didn't watch it
But I heard the word "redistricting" being bandied about on the news in regard to AhNo... what the hell is that all about??

4. I have a difficult time listening to him, too BUT
what you heard may have had something to do with his (moronic) plan to privatize pensions. (?) I'm not sure, but someone here on DU posted about that in this thread--

5. If it's detrimental to us Californians, then AhNo is for it...
microcosm of this country, it appears

2. he's still 8 BILLION in debt, ain't he?
Don't see he has improved much. No, I didn't see his speech and I don't live in Cali - just very annoyed by Gov Steroid.

3. Yep, we're still in debt--
honestly, he annoys me to no end also. I didn't pay a great deal of attention to what he had to say. I was perusing information here on DU while watching/listening.

I don't get how Maria can sit there and listen to his garbage. But I guess she is no different from any other Kennedy woman/wife--supporting their men, etc.

I did hear him say something about education. He wants to reward good teachers and get rid of mediocre and crappy ones. He wants to eliminate tenure and only provide the good teachers with rewards for good job performance, etc.

He also said something about wanting to create something so that those that don't have medical insurance, a means to get it, and a way for everyone to get prescription drugs from Canada to be more cost effective. Frankly, is that REALLY something he would have any control over?

6. There was a program on about the Kennedys recently
and (among other things) it featured Maria and her brothers, and it was VERY CLEAR that AhNo is not a favorite of the brothers. I forget their actual words but there was nothing ambiguous about it-- something to the effect that they (the brothers) and AhNo are VERY different politically. And whichever brother said it was not smiling (for the first time in the program).

I came away with a very clear impression that he's not well-liked by that family. (Maybe they dropped Maria on her head when she was a baby or something-- how could she be attracted to THAT???)

12. ailsagirl--I wish I had seen that!
I heard or read somewhere that one of the things Maria found attractive about him was the fact that he was an actor and NOT a politician. I guess she didn't clue in to the fact that who and what she was, was precisely what he was interested in her for.

He seems to be a climber to me, and not as interested in the interests of California as he is interested in himself and obtaining power. (i.e. his obvious campaigning for shrub, derogatory comments about Dems at GOP convention). The comments he made at the convention alone was enough to piss off at least half of California and the entertainment industry w/one fell swoop.

13. Not to mention
Edited on Thu Jan-06-05 10:58 PM by ailsagirl
what he said after the election-- that the Dems were "losers."

He's so stupid-- he's constantly putting his foot in his mouth. Or maybe he means to say derogatory things??

Leslie Stahl was the reporter-- it was an hour long-- and it was shown Christmas night. I can't remember the title of the program but it was very insightful.

Oh, I found it. It's called "The Kennedys - Privilege and Pressure"

8. Well here's a thought for AhNo...
...why don't we try to attract teachers to the profession by, I don't know, PAYING them a living wage or something? I just kills me how it's always the teachers' fault for our shit education system. Couldn't possibly be the fact that the teachers have to spend their own paltry salary just to keep paper in their classrooms of 30+ students. Nah, couldn't be that. They must just not *want* to be good.

10. Exactly--Thank YOU!
What about all the teachers that started out with fires in their bellies to teach, but got burned out by the conditions within the schools and in their classrooms? I am SICK of hearing people blame teachers!

Granted, I came out of LAUSD, and it did have it's share of crappy teachers. But it's an interdependent situation, not one where ALL of the blame belongs solely on the shoulders of the educators--no more than the blame of care in hospitals should be thrown on the nurses that are required to care for far more than they should during the course of a shift.

Sorry--didn't mean to go off on a tangent. But I take a great deal of offense to someone that wasn't even born here, hasn't gone to school here (in CA) telling the state what the problem is and how it should be solved.

Grrrrrrrrrr!

9. He blames the teachers.
rather than the the bureaucracy and lack of funding. The teachers and their unions are not the reason the state is in crisis. The gropenator's solution to state problems is to recycle republican ideology with a macho attitude. I hope the people of California can finally see through his act.:puke:
