Lockyer pegs job he wants: Governor
http://www.sacbee.com/content/politics/story/12106276p-12976302c.html

State Attorney General Bill Lockyer has all but officially declared that he's running for governor next year, seeking endorsements in a letter to Democratic legislators in which he also said, "It's the job I want."
California's top cop is one of three statewide Democratic officeholders whose names have been prominently mentioned over the past year as leading prospects to take on Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in next year's balloting.

goody--I get to vote against him!

1. If he's the nominee I'll support him.
But he doesn't get votes from my household in the primary.

3. For one, he voted for Schwarzenegger in the recall.
That's a big strike right there. I thought Bustamante was horrid, but Lockyer was traitorous. He's also too right-wing "law and order" like Davis, to the right of Schwarzenegger on criminal justice isssues like sentencing and the death penalty and so forth.

I like Angelides but am keeping an open mind until a field emerges. I think an unexpected, self-funding challenger might be the ticket.

9. Same here
That would test my party loyalty.
He is so treacherous. The alternative, however, is repugnant to me.How can I vote for him?arghhhhh!he voted for Arnold. Voting republican is , well, like treason to me. But you want Treachery, try Greens.

15. Headline: Treacherous Greens Recount Ohio. NM next.
How could the Greens run a candidate for Governor when the Dems put up such a solid candidate in Cruz Bustamante. (Sarcasm off.)

Bustamante is a poster child of what's wrong with the Dems.

I'd like nothing more than to see the Greens lose election after election to good Dems.

5. Lockyer tried to get the USSC to execute an obviously innocent man

last March. Fortunately, even they, turned Bill down. Lockyer's actions in the Cooper case were too extreme.

6. Lockyer's main competition is Phil Angelides. The liberals love Phil
Edited on Mon Jan-24-05 09:03 PM by genius
Angelides has stood up against Democrats who have caved in to Arnold. He has too often had to go it alone against Arnold and he clearly has the courage we need. My only concerns about Angelides is that he may not have the charisma of a Ben Aflick or Martin Sheen when it comes to defeating Arnold.

13. Aflick won one of the polls here. He donated to Kucinich and backed Gore.

In the 2004 GE, he backed Kerry. He's a great guy and, if he runs, he'll have my support.

10. I'm not sure what I would do
He has too many rumors surrounding him and a few that I can verify. I don't like Lockyer but I despise Arnold. I'd probably end up voting for Lockyer just to defeat Arnold.

I'm supporting Angelides. I already signed up to help.

14. If he get the nomination, the liberals need to unite behind an independent
Perhaps Arianna. The women's caucus at the DCP mooned Lockyer at the last convention - no kidding. I wasn't there when it happened but everyone was talking about it.

12. He can keep on wanting it as
far as I'm concerned. His wife should get N2 the public arena - she's smart, more liberal than bill and beautiful. Why she married him is a BIG question. Lockyer was bood last spring @ the Orange County Democratic Party Convention when he started talking death penalty support. He got off the stage rather ungraciously.
